Smile 2008 Civic A/C compressor not working

I took my civic to the local shop, they charged me almost $200 to simply say that they added fluid and it should work fine. Three days later I had to take it back bc A/C was not working again. Mechanic said it was the compressor and it was going to cost $900 to replace it! Not happy! Has anyone had this problem before?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: 2008 Civic A/C compressor not working

Second opinions can be valuable, if you can find the right person......but most mechanics will want to replace the compressor for any little problem, because they don't know or don't care that Honda sells a lot of the individual pieces separately. (More profit in selling you a whole compressor, plus the drier, plus plus plus)

It's really rare for me to replace a compressor on a Honda. I would rather replace the clutch/pulley and coil set to keep an original unit working whenever possible.

Maybe it only needs a relay instead.

Would you like to diagnose it yourself? There's a zillion threads on AC here.
