08 Civic power window not closing

My "Auto close" function is malfunctioning on my '08 Civic LX. The driver's side window closes most of the way but then returns to the original spot. Think auto garage door sensing an obstruction is in the way and not closing. Thanks!

Re: 08 Civic power window not closing

Put it all the way down, then clean the rubber channels/inserts with simple green or similar cleaner, then test

Re: 08 Civic power window not closing

Thanks CraigW. The window will go all the way up but I have to hold the button the full time until it closes. Sometimes it fully closes using the auto close button but lately that's been rare. I've read something about a procedure to follow involving turning the ignition off, doing such and such 3 times............... but, that didn't work when I tried it a while ago so, I have been living with holding the button full time.

Re: 08 Civic power window not closing

Take a read of this bulletin PDF, it outlines 3 situations and tells how to reset the PW control unit and more

Re: 08 Civic power window not closing

Thanks Ezone and CraigW. I just tried the reset procedure several times with no success. Window goes up 90% of the way but then returns to it's original position.
To quote CraigW, "no worky."

Re: 08 Civic power window not closing

If the glass does not reach the top of its travel before reversing, lube the snot out of the run channels.
I mean hose em good with silicone spray lube, use the little red straw to get the silicone to run around the glass and down the channels down inside the door.
The motor reverses when it thinks it has hit an obstruction or too much resistance. Dirty tracks is the #1 cause, and silicone helps.

You can't just hold the switch down then up on this car, it doesn't work that way. That worked on older cars, but not yours.
You must clear out the learned positions first, following the instructions in the bulletin linked earlier.
After the memory has been cleared, THEN you can do the relearn as in the video or in the bulletin.
However, the run channels have to be clean and free first, the glass has to slide without obstructions for the learn procedure to work.

Re: 08 Civic power window not closing

I did try the procedure you included a link to ezone. It didn't change anything. Can I lubricate the channels sufficiently (using the red hose) without taking the door panel off or doing anything extreme like that? Will WD-40 work? Thanks.

Re: 08 Civic power window not closing

WD40 might swell the rubber in the seals, I would NOT use it.

I use spray silicone lube because it will not attack the rubber.

=========

I don't need to remove a door panel unless I have to actually pull a run channel seal out to wash it.

With the glass UP, if you hose enough silicone into the rear corner it will run down into the track inside the door.

With the glass DOWN you can hose plenty of silicone into the front track and it will run down inside freely.

Re: 08 Civic power window not closing

I am happy to report that after cleaning the channels on the window and lubricating the tracks with silicone spray the drivers side window has closed using the auto function flawlessly!

My only concern is the silicone I used. I tried Liquid Wrench Silicone Spray. After reading a lot of Amazon user reviews it turns out there isn't a lot of silicone in it and it STINKS!

Overall, I'm happy the window goes up!

Thanks for all the help CraigW and Ezone!
