Need help with cruise control

I have a 2007 Honda Civic si (122k miles is when it happened) and I noticed that a few weeks after I purchased the car that the cruise control now only works when I hold it down. The switch will click but it doesn't toggle meaning that as soon as I depress the cruise control button, the light turns off. I haven't replaced my rear brake lights, which would be my first guess as to why it's not working. Ran a check on my brakes, nothing came up. No fuses are broken (I checked every single one of them, including relays) but I don't see why it's broken.

I had an idea that it may just need a new switch but I have no desire to spend $200 for a dealership or car shop to install it when I am capable of removing panels and the steering wheel and replacing everything back to the way it was and especially because I just spent $200 alone on a new starter and a couple of smashed fingers and chunks of skin. If I have to buy a new part, so be it, but I would also like to know if there's a cheat behind it to modify the switch because I've done something like that before with a pcb board for a heater, but I'm also seeking some experienced advice from one of you forum lovers.

Honestly I have had great luck with forums but I am completely lost about this situation. I hope I provided enough info. If not just ask.

Thank you
W.

Common, it's the switch.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Jam a toothpick into it to keep it on?

Exactly what I did about two years ago and it's fine. There's another thread about this here and a photo of my fix. Now my son has the car and the toothpick.
