help please!! shifting issues

Hello,

So my current situation is that I cannot engage in 3rd or 6th gear, when driving it makes a loud clunking noise and my speedometer doesn't work. And when I release the clutch it makes a whining noise as well. I recently back in February replaced 2nd gear. My gears and syncros looked fine. Then 2 months ago I was driving then it made a loud noise and this all happened. I have replaced clutch, throw out bearing and checked trans fluid everything is good. I also checked the code and it said something with a speed shaft sensor but I can't find anywhere to order one. Can anyone relate or help me?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: help please!! shifting issues

I'd probably verify the shift cables and shift arms on the trans are not obstructed and verify proper movement, then determine if the problem is inside the trans, then take it apart to see what happened inside it. (the bang noise and loss of gears)

I think there's only 2 items with wires on the trans, and the one on top is the back up light switch so you want the other one.

You did not give a code so here's a guess: The countershaft speed sensor (if it is one I'm thinking of) reads teeth of a gear passing under it to induce a signal. It the gear is not in the right place or not spinning, that could cause a code without having a bad sensor.

I've also seen the tip of a shaft speed sensor ground off and ruined because of a bearing failure in the trans, that allowed a shaft and gear to move out of place and hit the sensor.

I think the trans will probably have to come out and come apart to figure out what happened.
