Auto or Manual More Reliable? 2011

I'm thinking about picking up a civic as a daily driver. There's a dealership nearby that has two 2011 Civics. Each is the identical model with right around 33k miles and both are black, but one is auto and one is manual and they are both priced at $12k. Each comes certified with a 10 year 100k mile warranty which is appealing to me although I know civics are known to be reliable.

All else being equal, is there a track record with one transmission being more reliable than the other?

there not quite equal at all automatic trans has more parts just means a
higher risk of something going wrong. unlike manual transmissions less
parts less of a risk of something going wrong. I drive a Civic 5 speed and
wont trade it for nothing.

I feel like that's very general. I had a 350z and they were known for 3rd gear synchro problems and the autos were fine. I had a 2012 5.0 Mustang and the mt-82 was made in China and had some issues for some people and the auto was ok. Right now my Corvette has a 6 speed and those are known to be reliable

Well I have owned 5 vehicles in the past from Honda all were 5speed trans
and had Zero problems to report back on. I think Honda makes some great
reliable manual transmissions I realy do.

Re: Auto or Manual More Reliable? 2011

well what it comes down to is a manual transmission is just a very simple gearbox. in an automatic transmission you have a lot more gizmos and gadgets a lot more valves and moving parts. and usually the service intervals for manual transmissions are a lot higher than automatics.now I could say a manual transmission well out last automatic transmission but that would be a lie because I believe that if you were to take care of an automatic transmission change the fluid when it needs to be changed and you're easy and mellow on the gas I would say an automatic transmission should last the life of the vehicle. but believe it or not most people neglect the transmissions they don't change the fluid when they should. and I would say that's the number one cause of transmission failure. in a manual transmission if you go over your service mile interval you don't have to worry about well if I change my fluid is my transmission is it going to start slipping...the answer is no it won't because it's just a very simple gearbox there's nothing to a manual transmission.
