Rear ended yesterday:(

http://postimg.org/gallery/17e7irz1w/

New here.... Yesterday while sitting at a red light a woman slammed into me from behind. I had no warning whatsoever. I have a 2011 Civic DX Sedan that was in good condition. While I wasn't at fault I still went thru my insurance so they can deal it out with her insurance. I took it into the collision shop this morning. Wondering what you all think about the damage (I wasn't able to upload the pics directly here for some reason but see the link above) ....

When I got hit the engine shut off automatically but I was able to drive away after. The car was rattling and seemed to have problems accelerating. The trunk would not open at all. I am not a car expert by any means, any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Rear ended yesterday:(

Thanks, I'm hoping there was no frame damage. I was wondering about that since the trunk won't open and there is a dent in the body by the trunk from being crunched in. I prolly won't hear back about an estimate until Monday. The other driver was found at fault by her own insurance co so hopefully mine won't go up.... I was surprised at how well my civic held up. I was expecting much more damage by how fast she was going.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Let the bodyshop and insurance companies handle getting it fixed. It's gonna take some time.

If you need anything out of the trunk and can't get through the back seat, have the bodyshop get the trunklid open when you take it there (they will have to get it open sooner or later anyway).

Ask around, see who does the best quality body and paint work in your area.
My town has a few that are definitely top notch, and some that are worse than the 'bottom of the barrel'.
The wrong choice can ruin the car, just like letting an idiot put wrenches on your engine.

Re: Rear ended yesterday:(

Always remember, depending on your location, under the law you can get your car fixed wherever you want!

Your insurance might want you to go to a "preferred" shop, in exchange for a warranty, but a nice, high end shop will usually offer it's own warranty anyways, and you don't have to worry about it getting screwed up.

Re: Rear ended yesterday:(

Heard back yesterday that it's totaled. The estimate was around 8k for everything and in VA if it's within 70% they consider it a total loss. It looks a lot worse once the bumper came off. They would have had to replace the trunk, trunk floor, back panels, impact bar, bumper, and of course paint and alignment. Looks like I'll be looking for a new Civic.

Re: Rear ended yesterday:(

Honestly I'd rather have a car written off instead of fixed in an accident situation.

Friend of mine got T-boned in a 2005 Civic coupe SI a few years ago and insurance opted to fix it to the tune of $6500 in damages. When he wanted to sell the car he had to disclose the accident to any buyer who asked. He ended up trading it for a rusted out worthless piece of junk 1993 Toyota pickup and since then I've seen it up for sale a couple more times for less than $4000. I would personally never buy a vehicle either that had thousands of dollars of accident damage done to it either. If I did it would be 10 cents on the dollar value of it.
