Rep Power: 0 2013 Sedan kayak roof rack weight capacity/roof strength
Hey folks,
My wife and I recently bought a new 2013 Civic EX Sedan for her. Loving it so far, but ran into a small snafu. Our two kayaks are 55lbs each, so for both they'd be 110lbs. The Yakima rack we already have from our previous car that we can reuse most of the parts for is listed at 100lbs max weight on the Civic, and if we bought a new Thule rack system it's listed at 110lbs max.
Does anyone have an insight or thoughts on the strength of the roof and whether either going slightly over the weight limit, or exactly hitting it, is likely to cause any damage to the roof? The salesguy at REI was fairly dire in his predictions of imminent destruction if we risked it, but I was hoping someone with more familiarity with the strength of the roof (or who perhaps carried kayaks) might have a better answer.
Thanks!
