My 2010 civic has 19k miles and I am thinking of renewing the oil and filter in the next coming months. I have previously owned a 2000 Odyssey on which I installed a transmission cooler and Magnefine filter (bypassing the stock one ) . Has anyone here retrofitted with a Magnefine filter without any functional issues? It seems to get to the stock filter the airbox has to be removed and should I go with a retrofit I think I would reroute to make it more accessible for servicing .Comments?

Not sure if this will help you any, but here's a pic of the backside of the drivetrain, out of the car.

You can see where the OE inline trans filter is.

There isn't any cooler lines at the radiator to tap into, they are all on the trans itself. You'd probably need to use these pipes at the original filter, use long hoses and make a remote mount.

The cooler is mounted on the front of the trans.

FWIW, at the shop I work in, we do not replace that filter as part of any regular service.

If anything just change the original filter.... but at 19k I would not expect much has accumulated. Time and low mileage are more of an issue imo.

What is connected to the thermostat housing on both sides

You mean the 1/2" coolant hose? If it's the one I'm thinking of, it runs to the ATF cooler/warmer bolted to the trans.

That filter sure is hidden away! Thanks for the pics ! I peeked again into the engine and scratched my head as to where I would route hoses for a service convenience. Space is so tight! For now I think I will just do a fluid change in the near future ( understand from here that the new fluid DW is current) then muster up the courage for a filter change next year sometime. It seems the filter change would just be a conservative action on my part.

Very tight in the bay for sure.

Z1 went fast, DW1 is fine, my 2010 has had a couple of doses.

I also am about to do a trans fluid change on my 2010 EX-L and definitely want to change the filter.
I am under the impression that there is also a "strainer" inside of the trans.
Has anyone ever changed one of those as a maintenance item?

No, only during a rebuild. . You'd have to pull the trans out of the car and disassemble the case in order to find it. .
