Engine and Cabin air filters - 08 civic 64K

Hi Guys,

I am planning to replace the engine and cabin air filter for my 08 honda civic - 64K miles. I replaced cabin filter at 40K and not replaced engine air filter after I purchased at 36K, so not sure when they replaced it.
1) How often we need to replace these filters
2)my friend suggested to get STP brand. any thoughts?
3) I am assuming I can replace engine air filter on my own without goin to dealer?

Thanks in advance

1) How often we need to replace these filters
When the maintenance minder system tells you to replace them. See your owners manual.

Or whenever they get dirty. More often in dirty or dusty environments.

The minder code for the filters (#2) will come up around every 25,000 miles if you follow it.

2)my friend suggested to get STP brand. any thoughts?
I don't see why not....

3) I am assuming I can replace engine air filter on my own without goin to dealer?
Most average people can do them all (engine and cabin filters). Incredibly simple.
OTOH, some people can't handle it and shouldn't.

Cabin and engine air filter is amazingly easy on my 2006, imagine the 08 is the same.

My dealership wanted to charge me 60$ for the cabin filter, I told them maybe next time, when i got home and found out how ridiculously simple it is I was pretty ticked at how jacked up that price was.

Yeah, but 60$ to spend 3 minutes installing a 10-15$ filter? A little high even for a dealership in my opinion.

Re: Engine and Cabin air filters - 08 civic 64K

Air filter 17220-RNA-A00 $27.35
HVAC filter 80292-SDA-A01 $20.83
That's $48.18 if they use actual USA MSRP and factory parts.

$60 to install both would leave $11.82 for labor. That's freekin cheap.

Re: Engine and Cabin air filters - 08 civic 64K

60$ was the price for just the cabin filter, not the cabin and engine air filter.

Seeing as how we are on the topic, I never really paid attention to my AC, but i replaced the cabin filter with the cheap-o auto-store brand filter (10$), would this cause any noticeable difference in the performance of my AC?
Other than a funny smell for a few days after installing it, I didn't notice anything, but prior to changing it out I didn't pay enough attention to be sure I'd notice a difference.

Brand-wise, IDK. I rarely see aftermarket.

A clean filter allows more air flow,
a clogged filter restricts airflow, puts more load on the fan and power transistor too. (You might not believe how much crap the filters can hold!)

If you really wanted to get technical, yes a clogged HVAC filter can affect AC system operating pressures and performance.

Re: Engine and Cabin air filters - 08 civic 64K

I get the cheap cabin filters online $7 each, and use oem air filter.

Someone stated over at 8th you have take the MAF connector loose when changing air filter.... You do NOT have to.
