Transmission Fluid Change HCH - 2008

I have a 2008 Civic Hybrid with about 110,000km (68,350miles) on it and I recently went to the dealership to get the Transmission fluid changed, from what I understand, they do at about 100,000km as part of the Honda Servicing.

However, when I brought the car to the Honda dealership, they drained all the fluid and after realized that the HCH has a transmission filter, which they did not have in stock. So after telling them it was their fault for not knowing, they agreed to refill it with new CVT fluid. I personally watched them to make sure that they refilled using new fluid.

My question is ... Should I go back to the dealership and pay to get the complete change with the filter? or, is the drain/refill that they did good enough for awhile? From what I understand, other non-hybrid models don't even have a replaceable CVT filter.

Thanks!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Transmission Fluid Change HCH - 2008

Fluid drain and fill only here in this shop for routine transmission service.
We recommend every 30k (or sooner) though, regardless of what the manuals say. Plenty of trans issues over the last couple of decades makes us recommend that.

If you are talking about the filter that is inside the transmission, then no. We never replace that during a routine service here. It's a mesh screen. If something clogs it up, you have bigger problems and the trans needs to come apart to fix it (or be replaced).

If you are talking about the round filter canister in the cooler line, no to that too. (It gets replaced when the trans gets replaced though.)
It costs about 25 McDoubles plus some labor. Change it if you want (easy DIY). We don't unless someone really wants it and will pay the extra cost.

(BTW, regular 8th gens have that filter too, only it's mounted on the trans instead of out in front stuck in a hose.)

Fluid change by itself is fine. Don't worry.
