Rep Power: 0 8th gen trunk light LEDs DIY for coupe
Hello, this DIY will show you how to add two LED light bolts to your trunk for 8th gen civic coupes. I'm not sure but the same process should work with the 8th gen sedans as well. This is my first DIY, ENJOY!
What you need:
- 1 set of Optix Light Bolts (by StreetGlow) in the color of your choice
(you can find these at you local Advanced Auto Parts store)
- a soldering iron and solder
- 2 zip ties
- a pair of wire strippers
- 2 wire taps
(you can find these at any hardware store in the electronics section)
Begin by stripping about a quarter inch of wire insulation to the positive and negative wires on both of your LED bolts
Once you have done this its best to solder each tip to prevent them from fraying
You don't need too much solder on each tip but just enough to make each tip one solid piece of wire
Next you have to select the existing holes on the inside of your trunk to mount your LED bolts. I selected the two holes on either side of the existing trunk light
Above is the hole I chose on the left hand side
Above you can see the hole i chose for the right hand side and the LED bolt already in place
To mount your LED bolts just pass the attached wires though the hole first and then thread a washer then the provided nut for the bolt. Just tighten the bolts and you are done mounting the LEDs!
Above u can see the left bolt before placing the washer and nut and before being tightened
Once you have mounted the LED bolts its time for the simple wiring
Using a flat head gently pry out the trunk light, the clips that hold it in are on the left and right sides
Unclip the power cables connected to it and remove the light housing
Drape and pull the two wires from the LED bolts through the trunk light hole
Organize and zip tie the wires to remove any excess
Take the two positive wires from both LED bolts and twist them together at the tips do the same with the negative wires
In the power wires there is a dark blue/purple wire and a light blue wire with silver dots on it. The dark blue/purple wire is your negative wire, the light blue and silver dotted wire is your positive wire
Take the two wire taps and splice the positive wires together (light blue and silver) and take your negative wires and do the same (dark blue/purple)
If you did your wiring correctly the two LED bulbs should light up
connect the original trunk light back with the blue clip and push the light housing back into place and you are done!!!
Thanks for viewing please let me know what you think!!
