Rep Power: 0 oil life meter? + debadge question
i've got about 600 miles on my '08, and it's still showing 100% life
what's up with that?
and how does one go about taking off the civic badge?

give it time, it will go down, but i think they are calling for something like 7500 miles between oil changes, so it may not change yet, as for removing badges, use some dental floss and then some goo gone to get rid of the residue, its quite easy, just dont pry it off, itll leave dents and scratches

when it gets to 20% start getting ready for an oil change, like call honda, get oil w/e...
if its a brand new car and this is still the oil that cam with the car, then honda recommends you run it for like 8k or some ****?
i dont recommend it but thats your call really....
i changed my oil as soon as i noticed i couldnt see the dipstick through the dirty oil.
As for the debadging.....Dental floss, Zippo lighter fluid ...or denatured alohol and some wax.
A. Dental floss the badge off
B. Carefully remove the glue/gunk with the zippo fluid
C. Wax the car or the rear trunk (area you debadge)
D. wash car lol

cuz at 600 miles, you think it would have dropped at least one single digit in terms of life. :-/
anyways, with the debadge, dental floss? like run it between the paint & the badge?

it all depends on your driving habits aswell, with these new civics its not a dumby light like most other cars, instead it monitors a few things in respect:
A. How hard you drive the car
B. Mileage obtained
C. Temperatures
D. RPMs driven
etc...
just dont let the oil get to dirty on the first run here, cuz its your break in oil and alot of particles are in there from the break in process.

My dealer recommended changing the original oil at 3k.....the service tech actually told me to ignore the maintenance minder for the first oil change.

click on my signature....best shots i have right now of the civic.
maybe get the emblem nice and toasty with a hair-dryer,
use dental flos to get the emblem off,
then clean the gunk up as mentioned with zippo fluid,
wax the spot where the emblem is.
Just DO NOT use a razor, or any other hard object as this will result in scratched paint.

does dental floss work with Dealer badges? it's not an actual badge i guess, it's just a vinyl sticker which almost has no 3rd dimension. should i still try to use dental floss and heating it?

nope!
if it is a vinyl decal or like you mentioned one of those aftermarket plastic 3d ones, use a hairdryer and get the decal hot enough to just carefully peel back, then use something to clean up the gunk, then wax the area/car.

Press the sel/reset button untill the oil life monitor comes up, hold the sel/reset button for 10 seconds, the oil life will start to blink, press and hold the sel/reset button for 5 seconds to reset the monitor.

The original oil that comes in all Hondas is dark the second you drive it off the lot. It is a high moly content oil that Honda uses for the break in of all their cars. There have been super lengthy discussions about this on s2ki.com. It’s best to leave it in for the distance Honda tells you. If the oil filter does its job you won’t have particles in the oil. There was actually a TSB on the Acura TL because a lot of owners freaked out when they checked the oil right after they got it home.

yea, I have an 07 si, and its only down to 60%, and have over 3K mileage on it. Ive read numerous places to follow the readout at least initially as u should let the detergents, etc. in oil seat and place while engine breaks in.

Dealers badges are a little harder to remove. I just used my fingernail (the small scratches will come out with a good wax) Do not use any metal tools, if anything get a plastic fork and try to get the prongs under the badge a little and then you can get it with your fingernail better, I would not recommend prying it up at all.
As for the oil change things, I don't recommend following them. For peace of mind I change my oil more frequently than the meter tells me to (then again my meter only tells me to change it about every 15-16K miles)

If your going by the BMW meter then that’s totally different then Honda's. Usually Honda's will come up for an oil change somewhere between 5 - 10k miles depending on how the car is driven RPMs, Cold starts, Throttle Position and probably more. I know Honda put a lot of thought into the Maint Minder system so I would follow it without a second thought. BMW on the other hand... Make sure if your going to do a 15k mile OCI then use the best synthetic oil you can because if you use a regular oil with the long OCI they reccomend it will sluge up bad.
