Fly-By-Wire

Are the new Civics with the SOHC engine fly-by-wire?

I was driving today, and I noticed something: When I shift, the RPM's don't drop immediately when I let off on the pedal, they maintain for a second before they drop. Kind of annoying when I go to shift, and the engine speed goes up each time.

You mean "Drive-by-wire"

Yes they are. There are advantages and disadvantages to DBW, but the ones on our Civics could have been better engineered and more responsive.

Oh and about your problem: you might be leaving your foot on the accelerator for a tad too long as you're depressing the clutch pedal. Make sure your foot is completely off the accelerator, then press the clutch and see if the revs go up.

I shift it the exact same way I shift my 94 GTP with a 5-speed and my 94 Eclipse with a 5-speed. This is the only one that does that.

Okay. I can live with DBW(Sorry I was calling it FBW, used to the Saab forums). Just wanted to make sure that's what was going on, and it wasn't just that I was shifting wrong.

Check with your Service Dept and ask them to do the Service Bulletin 06-052. It addreses the rpm hang when shifting, as well as surging in first and second when engine is cold.
