Rep Power: 0 Brilliant idea, but just didn't work out.
I got my new LX coupe 5spd last weekend. It has the stock wheels and hubcaps, and as I parked it next to my wife's TSX in the garage, I couldn't help but envy the wheels on her car. After driving for a week, I brought up the subject of trading wheels for a week to see how much different the ride and tire noise would be. To my amazement she said she didn't mind if I just switched them permanently! She liked my hubcaps!
So, I jacked up both cars and began with the driver fronts. I put the Acura wheel on the Civic and it looked great. The clearance seemed fine so then I put the Civic wheel on her car. That's where the plan came apart. The 16" wheel does not clear the brake calipers on the Acura. The Acura calipers are a lot bigger. Duh!
Anyway, the good news is that during the first week of driving my daily commute, I went 343 miles and used only 9.329 gallons of gas and I squeezed every drop into that tank at the fillup. That works out to a mere 36.78 mpg and she ain't even broken in yet. That beats the heck out of my gas mileage on my former daily driver - 02 Tundra. Just the monthly savings in gas will be around $120 - $140. Sweet!
