Rep Power: 0 New user, new Civic owner! -- stereo question
Hi all!
I'll be picking up my new 2006 LX Sedan on May 26 once I'm done with school. Very excited! Went with Galaxy Gray.
Had a quick question on the stereo. When you play an MP3 CD, does the song information get displayed on the display? If it does, does it pull it from ID3 tags or from file names?
Thanks! I'm sure I'll be posting around here often. Seems like a great site

Rep Power: 0 A quick other question, looking at these two items:
http://www.collegehillshonda.com/sto.../mp3player.jpg
Are those mainly for the DX model that come with no stereo? It doesn't seem like it adds any functionailty over the stock stereo that comes with the LX/EX/etc, but it just piqued my curiosity. Thanks!

I just picked mine up, love it, can't wait to get it on the road a little more other than a boring commute from work and back.
I have a long trip for camping coming up, to upstate NY, that should be real fun
Stay excited!

It shows each song with the navi display and if you have them sorted into seperate folders you can see that also. I usually have pretty detailed info on my ID3 tags but also use just the song title as the filename for each mp3. Not sure about the regular stereo.

Rep Power: 0 Well, an update with my dealer for today. I asked him if the add-on aux port for the stereo ( http://www.collegehillshonda.com/sto...an/auxjack.jpg ) could be installed on the left rather than the right to save on cable mess. He said the accessories guy wasn't sure, but if possible, he'd put it on the left.
Also, I asked if they could not put their little "College Hills Honda" sticker on the back end of the car. He said no problem. I figure it's no big deal; if they forget I'll just hairdryer it off.
Also, I should be getting the VIN number any day now so I can kick things into gear with my insurance. It's getting so close! I can't wait!
Really happy with my expierence with this place. If anyone is looking for a Honda in northern or eastern Ohio, I recommend them whole-heartily at this point.
Oh, one last little fun thing I saw. If you go here: http://www.collegehillshonda.com/new/highdemand.htm and look at the fourth car down under May, that's mine! SOLD is right!

The aux port on my EX came on the left of the center stack right under the 12 volt outlet. I have had a hell of a time finding the right cable for it. I found a Belkin cable at Circuit City but it is only 6 ft and I think I need about 10 ft. Do you use an MP3 player or Ipod?

If you need it longer, here's an extender:

The EX's built in port is in a nicer position in my opinion than the accesory port installed on the LX, but I really couldn't afford the EX so this is a great soultion. Only $130 or so to have it installed, when it would've been closer to $1500 to get the EX over the LX.

Rep Power: 0 Hey, good news! My car arrived at the dealer today! Still 15 days before I'll be home to go get it, but it's there waiting for me now
I signed up for the Honda Owners Link and thought I had rad that you could download a PDF of the owners manual through that site. Is that not true? I couldn't find anything other than ordering it on CD or another book.

Rep Power: 0 I've got an aux port in my center console/adjustable armrest (behind the dual cupholder, along with a 12v port too (cig lighter).
I don't currently own an ipod but was thinking of getting one.
So I'd be able to get one of those 1/8" male to male cables that you linked to, plug it into my ipod and into the aux port and be able to listen to the ipod through the car's stereo system?
If so, that's pretty cool and would cost me waaaay less than installing a 10 disk cd changer in the trunk.
I'll be ipod shopping if this is the case...please let me know if this is what you mean.
Thanks!

Rep Power: 0 Cool ...but then why is Honda offering a special ipod music link cable instead of just telling folks to hook their ipods to the aux port?
Here's a link to the Honda web site's description and photo of the connection that I'm talking about.
Maybe hooking up to the car's aux port just wouldn't allow the vehicle battery keep the ipod's battery charged or allow the user to change songs etc. using the existing car's stereo controls
I am really clueless in the ipod area. Please let me know if i'm way off base here. Thanks!
I found a Honda Music Link iPod Adapter Review and will read through it later to see what else I can find out...if anything.
There's a lot of interesting info there.
I just hope that I'm not complicating something that should be simple.

once again, youre exactly right.. the auxiliary port simply plays the sound through your car speakers, where as the i-pod link controls your i-pod.. you could stick it in your console and never touch it where as w/ only the aux port you have to change the songs from the ipod

Rep Power: 0 Looks like i'll be saving up for one of those. The installation looks simple enough and the prices of all of the accessories at www.collegehillshonda.com are better than I could pick one up for around here. The dealers are getting $410 to buy the ipod link and have them install it. I can have college hill send me one for $162 and change, install it myself and whamo!!! hours and hours of the exact music that i'm into listening to...not too shabby

Great link on the ipod cable!
Im having the ipod link installed on Monday. Im not to worried about it being hard to use. I am buying a male to male plug for the aux jack also if that works better. Ive been using an ipod with an fm transmitter for a couple years and its a complete pain in the *** but I love it. My problem is that I always torch the battery and forget to charge it at night. So, if nothing else it will be a $400 ipod charger! I have to say that Im an audiophile and gadget guy. This car is the greatest thing on Earth for me. After the ipod link is installed, I will have...
CD/MP3 CD
PC Card
Ipod
Sirius sat radio
XM sat radio
AM/FM radio
I never run out of something to listen to anymore. I LOVE this car!

Take a slow walk around the car. Let your eyes move up and down the car. This will help you look for any flaws in the paint. Follow all the lines of the car where parts meet each other. Look for even seams inside and out. If you have time, ask to take it for a test drive before you sign the papers. Take your hands slightly off the wheel while at speed and see if the alignment is correct. Do the same as you step on the brakes and see if the car pulls. Lastly, enjoy your new Civic and GOOD LUCK!

Rep Power: 0 Got the car on Thursday. Absolutely love it. I've done a lot of driving and as a result she's a mess (almost 700 miles since I got it). When I get the car washed and waxed I'll get some pictures up.
My first tank of gas got me ~37mpg (36.666) which I thought was incredible. The ucrrent tank looks to be getting me right around the same mark. I've had a pretty 50/50 split of highway and city.
Some things I love about the car:
- The dash. It's cool, and very safe.
- I've always loved the whiney noise that manual transmissions make in reverse. My automatic Civic has the same sound. Just a silly thing but enjoyable.
- Auto down AND auto up on the driver's window. Did a lot of toll road driving this weekend, this was much safer than my old manual windows.
- The getupandgo. My coming off of an 88hp 93 Ford Escort sedan, so this car almost feels like an F1 racer under me.
- The sound system. While it may not satisfy the audiophiles out there, for stock, I think everything sounds very nice, especially stuff plugged into the AUX port.
Things I'm luke warm on:
- Auto locks work well, but why no setting to have at last the front two doors auto unlock as opposed to just the driver side?
- The rear speaker assembly on the driver's side can rattle something fierce at mid speeds (30-50) on semi-bumpy city roads. I guess I'll have to drive her back down to the dealer (about an hour away) and get it fixed, but anyone else have any thoughts on things I could check to get fix it myself? The grill seems as secure as the passenger side, and the speaker is firmly in place. The rattle disappears almost completely on the highway, and sometimes is gone all together for an entire trip. It's very odd.
All in all, VERY happy. Great little car!
