I was watching an old Seinfeld episode last night, where Kramer is out test driving the Saab with a salesman, and they test how far they can drive before running out of gas.

So it got me thinking. I was just wondering out of curiousity if anyone knows how far you can drive below the red line on the gas guage before you run out of gas? Obviously you wouldn't want to make a habit of it, but I'm just wondering as I have never tested this. Thanks

i've gone 70 miles after gas light went on


i think when the light goes on, u still got like 1-2 gallons left in tank, correct me if i am wrong...

yeah around 1 to 2 gallons in tank is left after light comes on, but i recommend not trying that without some spare gas in the trunk....

I went way to low, and run out of fuel on county road on a hill with no one around, no cell phone reception in the dark, had to spend overnight in the car, at dawn I got gas…was a bad bad day

I have only had the gas light come on once and ended up going almost 50 miles before I got to the gas station.

You have about 1 or 2 gallons. If you floor your car alot you'll only go like 40 or 50 miles tops. For normal driving i would say you can get like 60 miles when you light comes on.

the car has a 13 gallon tank, it comes on once your down to 3 gallons, ( i let it come on all the time) as soon as it comes on, i fill up, it puts 10 gallons or so in, iv drove till it ran out just to see, i had my lil gas tank thingy with me, put some in, drove to the gas station, but i drove close to 80-90 miles once it came on

I'm saying it gets more like 20 mpg when driven hard, depends how much you floor it and how long.

Ok thanks guys. How far down does the needle go before the light comes on? Because I've driven when it was right above the red line and it didn't come on. Where is the fuel light located btw? Is it near the windshield washer fluid light?
