Rep Power: 0 DIY: Booty Call
By popular demand
Please excuse the drawing, i am not good at using photoshop so i used MS Paint!
Nobody likes to honk to catch attention.. so here's the...
DIY: Booty Call Siren w/ Momentary Switch
Parts Needed:
-Siren ($10-15 You can get any kind at any alarm shop)
Or buy one on ebay.
-Momentary Push-button Switch ($2-3 see links below... 2 kinds)
Switch 1
Switch 2
Pick whichever you like best. I'm using Switch 1, but switch 2 is "softer".
-Fuse Holder w/ 10 amp fuse ($2-4 see links below... 2 kinds)
Fuse Holder1
Fuse Holder 2
-12-16 Gauge Wiring ($5-6 Find it at radioshack or pepboys. You will need 15ft at least)
For around $20, it's a fun DIY
Visual Instructions:
Pretty self-explanatory. I don't feel like typing instructions... this DIY is so easy anyway.
edit: you don't have to hook it up to the battery, it's easier if you tap the power cable to the radio's 12v source...
*Waiting for SoCal 7th Gens to reply...*
Any questions?
Now don't say this is a gay DIY, or i will smack you.

Oh and when you're ready to test, you must press the button in 1/2 second bursts.

Rep Power: 0 Yet a third diy version for those who are even lazier and dont want to have to tap the switch, for those who just want to flip a switch and have it tapped for you in 1/2 second intervals, sorry this one wont have pics, because i doubt most of you know what this is, and if you DO know, you wont need pics, but, here goes.
noramlly, one would just use a flip flop switch on a timer circuit, but heres the problem, a flip flop switch wouldnt be able to handle toe 12 volts and 3 amps that a siren would draw, so we would have to bring a relay into it.
Basically what we would be doing here is turning a pulsed input into a latched output using the correct flip flop,
as for the timer circuit, you would need to use a potentiometer (or just straight resistors) potentiometer is cooler because you could change the speed of the on and off with the turn of a ****,
also, we gotta remember that gates use 5 volt power, so we would need a 5 volt relay to trigger the whole shabang.
list of materials, correct flip flop, timer circuit, potentiometer, 5 volt relay, on-off switch
i will not give more instructions, nor will i give a detailed DIY, since i havent quite tried it myself, also, please don't pm me asking how to do this.. lol

Rep Power: 0 Couldn't you just tap the siren into the stereo's constant 12V wire... then you wouldnt have the need for a fuse holder/fuse.... correct? And what about the switch... do i ground it?

Rep Power: 0 DMX - I have a 6 tone. I don't think it really matters because you are pushing the button in 1/2 second bursts.
MangoEX- You could tap it, never thought of that. Switch has 2 ends: 1 power wire from 12V source and the other one goes to battery. No grounding wire for switch.
Diemos - Someone understands the purpose of the DIY.
HRocket2k2 - Anytime, and if you need help I can offer it on the next March Meet.
