Cat location....
I have an LX with the kamikazi race header and 2 1/4 pipe to a APEXi N1 GT Jspec muffler and was wondering since I had to remove the cat for the header installation, Could I buy a high flow cat and put it in line with my piping and still pass emmissions and maybe even build a little back-pressure for some extra low end? Would this work??? I have o2 simulator on the sensors so they will be fine but will this cat help me pass? Or should I get a regular universal cat to put in line to help me pass... also what will this do to my exhaust sound? Please help

ok first things first. it is illegal to remove or move in general the location or type of cat on your car if you are under 60k miles. but i got the obx stainless 4-1 with straight 2.25 piping and cp muffler with 2.25 inlet and it works great. even with a high flow cat youn will not pass emmisions anywhere, which sucks cause that is what i wanted to do. what i am trying to do is find an ex cat for the 2k1 and throw it on for emmisions since in az we don't have emmisions required for 6 years. and then i will have over 60k on the car do i can do without the stock cat, so the people at the emmisions won't say anything about the new cat since it will pass. a high flow cat just mainly eliminates that weird smell from your car but it doesn't help too much, also it gets rid of that rattly type sound that your engine has that most people including me hate. as long as you has sri or cia your back preasure will be fine since you only went with 2.25 in "2.5 half is too big for our cars" coming from the owner of the racing store that i goto. pm me if you have any other questions. for one thing, the location and type of cat can be changed anytime depending on where you are located in the US, the only limitation is there must be a cataytic and it must pass emissions. Secondly, I ran through three high flow cats on my Jeep, and had one on the del sol (all were random tech.), on the del sol all emissions readings were 0.0 for two years, and the jeep always passed emissions without a problem.
cat location? probably in the kitty litter or chilling around your house?
sorry i had to..
well anywho, when i first got my exhaust done, the shop chopped off my cat for some reason. (i didnt tell them to). but all i have to say, runnin with no cat=LOUD my mom could hear my car when i was about a mile or 2 away from the house.. and she was inside too. but on the other hand, you get some hefty gains.. as of now, i got the shop to put back the stock cat, so its goin good. luckly, i live in MI where there is no emissions law, so i could've gone with the no-cat setup.. only if it wasnt so gosh darn loud
