I now know rim weights, how about tires?
Thanks to www.wheelweights.net, I now have the weights of all the rims I can think of, but after fishing around for a while, I cannot find tire weights. So does anyone know, or know where I can find weights of 15", 16" and 17" tires? Or even a good average? I'm figuring for the mesh-style rims I'm looking at, anywhere between 17 and 20 lbs for 16-17" rims, but I want to find out how much the tires are going to weigh too. After all, it is the rim AND tire that you have to account for for the weight increase/decrease, and since unsprung weight multiplies by 4, I want to try to minimize the increase and try to deal with the extra inertia. I searched here and ClubSi with no luck, but I did find out that the 99-00 Si rims are 16.5 lbs, and the new ones are around 20 (in case anyone wonders)
Sorry if this sounds too stupidly technical for a Civic, but I spent all day yesterday watching GT3s, F360s and F-1 cars tearing around corners incredibly fast, I'm in a racing kind of mood this morning...

with all the things you have to consider, overall you should look at the rotational inertia of the rim and the tire together. Most 17 inch tires weight between 20-22 lbs a piece. For all you in-liners(draggers), tire stiffness(sidewall stiffness) you would not have to consider, but for racers you would. It should like you want to corner well. Look at most of the race car out there. All the ITR(DC5) i see racing have 17 rims with 45 profile tires. If the professionals are using it, guess what? You should listen to them. 16-17 are performance sizes for us and anything over that iz fo sho. in a 16 inch rim, most of the weight of the rim is 8 inches for the center. The farther you go out from it, the more work the engine will have to do. Yadda, yadda, yadda. In theory our stocks should be able to outperform the same caliber car with 17's. And the question of which to get first, that is up to you b/c eventually you will have everything you wanted, right? you are not done with your suspenion until you buy everything, even though you do not plan on buying everything. Got to get going. I have a class at 1.
