Since I got new wheels and tires everything has been fine until the other day. I took my car in to have the tires rotated. I sat there and watched them rotate AND balance them. Now, when I'm driving everything is fine until I reach about 70 then the steering wheel starts to vibrate. Does anyone know what would cause this?

it happened to me the other day. i think its because your tires are new. let them break in and everything will be fine

You can take them back and be sure both front tires are balanced correctly. I just had my rims put on and they did that, went back to the shop and rebalanced the wheels. hope this helps.

Need to be rebalanced again...I ended up taking mine back several times and they finally got it right after the last time, make sure they do dynamic balancing where they put the weights on the inside of the wheel...they also need to be rebalanced if you rotate your tires...there will be some sort of vibration since they may be a little bit bigger of a tire/wheel combo, but it won't be as bad...hang in there, its fixabale..

MINE DOES THE SAME, it could be one or two reasons
1. You have new tires and the tread is catching some grooves in the road surface
or
2. Your tires are out of balance, i took mine to have them rebalanced when i got my rims and it still kinda shakes some but not as bad as it used to.

Plus, had you searched you would've seen this answer at least 25 times. I am yet to understand how ppl can drive cars and not know the most basic facts about vehicle operations.

For new rims, make sure you have hub rings installed to make that vibration go away.

First of all, I did do a search, and what I found was not what I was looking for. I know the basic facts about vehicle operations. I know that the most logical explanation would be the tires are out of balance, but I sat there and watched them balance them. Therefore, my question was directed towards an alternative reason. The simple solution is not always the correct solution.

your bushings might be shot? and the hub carriers are vibrating? maybe your axle is fubar?

That could be true, but I have a hard time believing that because it was fine until I got the tires rotated/balanced. Then, as soon as I left the tire place I got on the highway and as soon as I got to ~70, the steering wheel began to vibrate. I'm going to assume they messed up and didn't balance them properly. I'll probably find out later today.

Hey man, keep your shorts on! Just because you watched them balance your tires doesn't mean that one of the weights didn't fall off when you hit a bump or pothole. Also, any other mechanical part could cause the vibration. Somthing simple like a tie-rod end, bushing or even a bad or loose shock could be the culprit. However, the most logical and easy to fix answer is to rebalance your tires. Make sure it happens on more than one surface or location as the roads might have somthing to do with it as well.

have them optimize them a special balance machine can tell if theres a slightly off shape in the wheel and tire and they can be moved to oppose each other helping even further with the balance

Yeah, the roads definitely have something to do with it...I notice a difference between a concrete highway versus a paved highway versus a freshly paved road..older the road, the more small ruts in it that will affect the way your car feels...

Zeta R You definately have a balance problem but there are a couple of reasons why. The first is that even though your tires and wheels are balanced the hub they bolt up to could be slightly out of balance. When the manufacture make the Brake Drums and Rotors they are balanced but like tires they can come out of balance after awhile. The best way to eliminate this problem is find a shop that balances the wheels right on the car, this way the tires, wheels, drums or rotors are all balanced as one. I did this type of balancing a lot at the shop I worked at, but it might be hard to find a shop to do it. Its called Static Balancing, if the shop you call doesn't know what your talking about explain it to them like I just did, if they don't do it, they might know someone that will.
