Probably a dumb question?
Ok with people supposedly doing a K20 swap in our 7th gen civics. Sounds like companies are making motor mounts and kits to help us do this. Well the K20 is a two liter engine with the exhaust on the back side of the engine. So why is it not possible to drop a small 1.6 or 1.7 with the same engine set up from a gsr or si or type r. I know this has already been covered but I couldnt find it in a search.

one thing is that its illegal to put older engine's in.
secondly ppl say those engines are too big to fit in a 7th gen engine bay.
i don't konw if its true, its just what i read from ppl on the site
correct me if i'm wrong plz.

i know the itr engine will definitely NOT fit into our engine bay without some modification to the bay itself. i've looked at the engine of my friend's '01 itr dozens of times and the bay of that car is so huge compared to ours. it would require lots of welding and cutting to fit the B18C5 into our tiny engine compartment.
hmmm, when you mean Illegal, do you mean, Emmisions Illegal, or Go to jail Illegal.
Cause....If you Mean Emmisions.........Don't you think that in our quest for more power(substantial amount, not IHE),
almost everything we do is Illegal??
people with the 2k1 can pop in the 2001 b18 motor which came with the 2001 GSR, legally, physically its impossible without big funds, it is much more economical to put in a physically smaller engine like the K20, even though it has more displacement the actual size of the engine ist quite as large, you still have to relocate components just not as many as you would if you popped in a b18., but no you cannot legally put in a d16 or b 16 in the civic because they are from 2000 model cars and below only.

I would like to see that illegal bs in black and white. My friend had his car stolen and they took the engine, nothing else. It was a 1991 RX-7 Turbo II. They payed to put a 1989 engine from a junkyard with 20k original miles. They wouldn't have done this if it was illegal.

who really cares if its illegal since when do we care. Personally the speed is what matters if I have to suffer legalities to get an extra hundred horses who cares. I will take your word for it who say there is no room in our engine bays but under a dx manual without all the plumbing for ac and the extra room for an auto, there is a lot of room and I have seen both K20s and B18C in person and if they are not the same size or the later is smaller I dont know what to tell you then. Cause truthfully until they work out the bugs of the K series I will take a B series any day.
the legality actually comes from the EPA, it is not illegal to use an older engine its illegal to use an engine with different Emissions standards, but usually older engine vary in emissions standards. At least thats what I found from researching.
