AEM CAI Q...

Do you NEED the by-pass for the AEM CAI or can you live without it? I hear that the By-pass valve actually messes up the air that comes in to the engine? But on the other hand I hear that you need the by-pass for the water that could enter the CAI.... I just ordered my AEM CAI to replace my short ram and I ordered the by-pass valve with it, but in case it's not necessary then I can always cancel the by-pass valve...

the bypass valve is just insurance that ur not going to hydrolock your engine if you completely submerge the filter in water, which would not likely happen, but it kinda looks cool lol

u can live without it, unless it floods where u live...but if not, just dont drive over deep *** puddles, but then i know a guy that hydrolocked his engine cuz he ran over a puddle that didnt look to deep but ended up being hella deep...

The bypass valve is insurance against hydrolock. If it were my car and money I'd opt to install the valve.

SRI for winter because of the snow build-up. I mean if your car is lowered and all. I just pull off my lower extension (instant SRI) for the winter. I'm gettin the BPV so i don't have to do that. Just my .02

I know I'm a NoOB. Thanks.....

I ran my CAI w/out bypass all last winter... not a single problem!
Even during heavy rain and puddles.

Just don't be stupid and try to drive thru stuff more than axle deep.
Be smart, look at where the cone filter of the CAI is located in the engine bay. Mine is actually above the frame. So the only way water will even touch it, is if I go in water that is deeper than my frame. Then the only way to get the cone completely under water... well, lets just say you better be worrying about water coming in your doors instead!

Bypass valve is just a great marketing tool. For those who are scared and want to feel safe. Just think, they are giving you a piece of foam with a hole in it, for around $20.

Be smart, and be safe.
