Lately, my car has been making a clicking noise when I take right hand turns in second gear. After bringing it to my local dealership for the second time, they informed me that it is a problem with the reverse shift fork. The part is on order and will be in within two weeks.

Honda currently has a bullentine out on this problem. So if your car is making a clicking noise on right hand turns and you bring it to the dealer, this may well be the problem. It is ok and safe to drive your car with the problem, but it is very annoying and frustrating.

The job is quite extensive as I will have to leave my car at the dealership for a day to a day and a half.

Finally, while I'm not sure if this is also a hint to the problem, when shifting into 2nd and reverse, there is also a clicking sound. This is sound unlike any of my other gears. Its quite loud and "crunchy".

I decided to post in the tech forum instead of vehicle issues due to there being a Bullentine out about this problem...yet when I sought help here when I first identified the problem, people were saying it was the brakes not seating right or the CV joint. Those of you who were told it was a problem with your breaks, it might be wise to call your dealership and mention the bullentine and ask them if it really is the breaks (those of you who posted about the breaks were given no solution besides going aftermarket.)

yep thats what i got for like a month now. i thought it was my cv boot but wasn't really sure. so how much was it? is it cover by warrenty? where can i find honda's bullentine on this and other issues? thanks.

i get a loud click when hitting the breaks the first time after i start the car, also some creaking on takeoff (like a bad spring)

I had the same problem with my car, they replaced several things in the trans (don't remember what off hand), but the 5th gear syncro was on back order all the way back to Japan (trans is the only part of the car not made in the US), so I was with out my car for almost a month, but they paid for both my rental cars, and it was covered under warranty.

I think I have that problem as well. I couldn't identify what it was at first, but now that I think about it I know that I turn right in this one spot and I'm usually in 2nd gear. Is this covered by the warranty?

Yes it is covered by the warranty. Honda sends out bullentines to the dealers. Each authorized Honda dealership should have one. I'm not sure if or where you can review one besides at your local dealer.

The first time I took it to the dealer for the problem, I couldn't repeat the rattle, I knew it was while in 2nd gear, but it wouldn't rattle.. So I drove on it for a while, and finaly discovered it ALWAYS happend when accelerating into the turn. When you go to the dealer and they want a ride-a-long, remember that!

Yup, take a mechanic out with you. I had to do that twice. I dont have to accelerate into the turn to make the rattle however...the rattle does pick up in sound & frequency as I accelerate out of it (with the wheel gradually being straightened out). Perhaps my case is a little worse than yours. Over the past few days, its been a biatch to get the car just to go into reverse...have to really pull hard on it and work the clutch.

That's is exactly what mine is doing. Everytime I back out my driveway, just before the end, I push in the clutch and hit the brake, and I hear a loud click. It sounds like it is coming from the engine compartment directly in front of me. Sometimes it happens again when I come to a stop at the end of the neighborhood. Seems to go away after that.

My car is going in on Monday. They have the part waiting for me...Its going to take them a day and a half to fix it...Wish I could watch them do it [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]. I'll let you know if the reverse shift fork fixes the problem.

ps - my brother's civic (PESTLNC) is also going in on Monday...the trunk adapter busted on him......can we say DUCK TAPE until Monday?

Let me know how much that part costs. I'de rather DIY this because of all the horror stories about dealers messing something up in your car.

Its covered under warranty so why would you want to pay for it? Also, I believe the whole transmission needs to be taken apart (I'm assuming that since its a 1.5day job). Go to your dealer, have it done.

Hehehe...damn hinge thingy. I close my trunk and hear a crunch. Now it wouldn't close at all. I take a look at the hinge, and the plastic parts are all mangled.

Guess the "DIY - No more trunk rattle" and having no trunk springs can damage that little bugger.

YOUR ANSWER TO THE BRAKES!!! Ok. now that I have your attention.

The clicking sound you get is normal. it is just the calipers pivoting or adjusting. Aside froma dding a fraction of a second to your stopping time after reversing, it just annoys ythe hell out of you. Best fix? Turn the radio up.

Shuddering brakes or grinding sound...is warped rotors, and worn brakes....I have both these problems.

Speaking of which...10K mile checkup is due...2k miles ago..lol.

Just picked up my Civic...They replaced the Reverse Shift Fork and it fixed the problem. No more annoying clicking. It took them about 8 hours to do the job...@$72 an hour billed to Honda plus parts....my guess....about a $1200 repair.

Whoa! Now did they mess anything up? Is the interior dirty? Any scratches? I've had some bad experiences with a dealer and I'de rather not go in for this, but maybe I'll go if you came out without a scratch...

my car always makes one loud solid "click" when i hit my brakes on the way down my steep driveway. it clicks alot otherwise too. i just passed over 36,000 miles in my 2001 civic though!!! will it still be covered under warranty since it is a manufacturer defect?? it sure as **** better be.
