penzoil is bad?
Why do some people hate penzoil? I did a search and some people seem to think it damages your engine. Whats up with that? I asked one of my friends who's been running an auto parts shop for yeeeaaars and says that Penzoil is the best you can buy. The other he would recommend is Quaker State or Catrol. (I use all conventional oil).
So why do ppl think Penzoil is bad? Is this based on fact? Opinion? Testimonial?

Your going to hear that from everyone. Some people swear its the worst stuff to use, some say its the best. People say that about every kind of oil you can buy. My moto on this is, if you have used a specific brand for a long time, stick with it. Ive always used Mobil 1 synthetic and change it every 5k miles but everyone has their own preferences.

I heard nothing but good stuff about Pennzoil, especially because of its viscosity under high temps...I used to use that in my Cavalier all the time, never gave me any problems....now its on to bigger and better things...my Civic...for that, I use Castrol Syntec Blend....does one hell of a job keeping the engine clean and running well...

I agree with celica up there. I had a '93 accord that I drove to 150k w/o any problem whatsoever. I change the oil every 3-5k with penzoil. Oil is just one of those things that people like to debate over but neither really has any evidence to support their claim.
Bottom line is, oil is oil. Certain companys think they can charge more because of certain addative they put in it. Anyone remember that Zeemax crap they were advertising for a while? Oh, they would sell that stuff for a bundle, it had Linkite in it or some crap like that.
Best oil on the planet: Royal Purple. Trust me there is a HUGE difference in quality on oil, just as there is on gasoline, filters, plugs, etc. etc. etc.

the only thing I have against Penzoil/quacker state is that penzoil is the same color gong in as it is coming out ... ( slightly exageratted) but it is really dark due to them adding Teflon to there Oil which is not cool because Teflon is a solid material and why would you want taht in your car to cause build up... but on the other hand I have heard alot of stories about Penzoil success stories .. so I guess the old phrase "to each his own" fits here. I recommend AMS oil even though its a litltle pricey compared to Penzoil
All oil is not the same. My dad has been in the oil business for the past 40 years, and if I told him that I put penzoil in my car, he would shoot me. Although, he did say that penzoil is good for race car engines (I'm talking NASCAR and stuff like that). His reasoning was something to the effect that after they're finished racing, the engines are completely flushed out and the oil is cleaned out. Penzoil sticks to the inside of the engine, so over time old oil just sticks there. His recommendation is Valvoline, but everyone has their preferences. I say if you've never had any problems with it, and you like it, keep using it.

penzoil has some kinda stuff added called t7 or z7 or something. supposed to be some sort of additive thats good if u drive a lot of stop and go and short trips. Makes me think its kinda like oil with pro-long or dura-lube or something like that built in. Makes the oil stick to the engine so that when u start the car cold it gives better protection. dont know. i think im going to switch to castrol or valvoline when i get the chance. i dont think valvoline makes a 5w-20.
and as for synthetic - too much $$$. i stick with conventional. never had any problems in aaaany of my cars with conventional oil. one of em went 245k and still going strong when we got rid of it. i change my oil way too often to be spending that much $$$ on oil.

I have switched to the genuine honda motor oil. I get it changed at the dealer and it comes in quarts, not bulk like normal. It's 30 bucks if you get the honda oil instead of the 20 dollar bulk oil change. The service guy said it's the same oil that is put in at the factory for the break in period. I don't know if it is synthetic, part synthetic, or what....
