while replacing the head on a d17a2 should i also replace the head bolts? ive heard that i should because they are "stretch bolts"
im also replacing the timing belt, tensioner, gaskets, alt belt, power steering belt.
any thoughts on this are really appreciated.

Yargh.. I'm going to get flamed for this but I'll tell you the truth. You DO NOT need to replace head bolts on a civic when putting the head back on. You CAN replace them, if you want but it's not necessary. Of course, check them for stripping and all that other crap which sometimes actually happens at the factory. Most GM's and Fords require new head bolts, D17's, Don't. If one bolt is stripped though, I'd replace them all.

imo, its better to spend the extra $100 than worry about possibly doing the whole job over again if something goes wrong using the old bolts and the head does not seat properly.

I was told by Honda Service rep that it's not necessary. That's where my information comes from. Here in Canada head bolts go for around 180+ tax.

the d17 is not a stretch bolt so it can be used over again the older d16 you had to stretch the bolts and those you are supposed to replace but really it is not necessary unless you are boosted there is not enough internal pressure to cause any problems with re-used head bolts and if you are boosted over 6-7lbs you are going to be running arp's anyways. save your money don't buy a new set of head bolts it's a waste
