MY DIY painting of ACTUAL VALVE COVER

i know everyone claims the did a DIY painting or the valve cover, but its always the wire cover DOH!!!!! yea, damn newbies that dont know car parts...anywho. heres what i did step by step. i bought some 1200 degree red paint, disconected all the wires and pulled the coils out, then unbolted the cover, took it out, sanded it lightly with 400 grid sandpaper, then masked off holes, painted, the installed, look at pics below to get the jist, its not as hard as it looks. let me know what ya think, itll look nice once i put my Injen SRI on i think if you have any questions, just post below, PM me or IM me on AIM = hondawerx

Awsome job on your painting!! It looks really slick. It would make me wet my pants (not litterally) if you painted the lettering on the upper cover (HONDA SOHC V-TEC).
Keep up the good work on your car

Why didnt you just take it in to get anodized for like 15-20 bucks? It looks better and will last alot longer.

Our valve covers are made out of magnesium. Magnesium dust burns. Collect the dust from sanding (if you still have it) and try lighting it with a match.

Anyway, looks good. I don't think I've seen what's under the valve cover of our cars yet. Hehe...

Here's a tip for everyone else that's thinking of doing this. After removing the valve cover, cover the opening with seran wrap. You don't want anything to get in there. Of course, you'll want a cool engine when you do this as well.

well i didnt get it anodized, cause i have no clue where to get it done, and i wanted it painted red, because i like how it looks more like a JDM type valve cover of the last gen. so this color and look was desired. i m happy, thats alllll that matters

Grey: you could add this to the mega DIY thread too

Call around to you local paint stores and ask if they know where you can get parts anodized or powder coated. Or just look in your phone book.

When I first read the post title, I was highly sceptical. I thought it would look like crap. However, you proved me wrong. I think you did a really nice job and it looks great. I would do it to mine, however, my car is silver and you wouldnt notice it as much. I am pondering having it chromed.

Sad story here........I painted my valve cover, I obviously didn't put it back on correctly because it poped off while driving and landed on the header heat shield and melted part of it. I guess I'll be ordering a new one from the dealership
