For any one intrested. I know many of you have had concerns/questions about this cam and how much power it makes....among others things like idle issues etc.. I am creating this thread to post on all my findings after Thursday 11-17-05. Check my profile if you want to know mods involved and I will answer any questions as I get time to do so. PLEASE DO NOT PM ME about this topic!!!! I don't want my inbox getting bombed if I can help it. For what it is worth I have a d17a1 block and d17a2 head (that is right kiddies head swap), Stage 2 cam and spring/retainer set. That is it for any internals. Basically any and all other bolt ons you can get...I will be intrested to see how it turns out. I have it Tuned with the VAFC2 after the head swap/can combo install and it idles worth a crap. Needs ign. timing adjustment so you have to have a Camgear at bare minimum. I did not have one at the time and only put down 110hp/109tq. That was at 4600 when my timing became jacked (in vtec). The tuner said to expect 20-30ish HP over that tuned....Guess we will see
. Anyways that is it for now hope this will help you decide to get or not to get one of these cams. In my honest opinion from what I have found thus far, VAFC and cam gear min to run stage 2/3 cams. Idle will be rough and you will probably get check engine lights daily. I do now. AEM EMS and cam gear is the "right" way to do it if you are going to do it right IMO. Course that is waht I am doing so I am kinda Baised. None the less stage 1 I bet you can get away with only cam gear and VAFC2. Hope this thread help some of you sorry ricers out there like myself find the way to that extra 5WHP in the sky...ride along with me Doggs......

What sux is when the tuner says he has to push it back another day....will let you all know tormorrow....yeah immagine my disapointment copmpared to those of you waiting for #'s.....I am sooooo poor!!!
Well I am also walking the same route as you Nokturnl however I have the stage 3 cam and I have CP high compression pistons. I already ordered the EMS from Dezod and should get it tuned very soon. Currently my stock ECU is running the car. The problems that I have had so far with the stock ECU is idle problems, car also shakes alot at idle, and it runs very very very very rich at idle. Other than those issues the car barks very solid (I could just imagine when it gets tuned) I will also be giving #s after the dyno tune.
Good luck i have the stage 2 turbo cam and my idle is fine it just also runs super rich and i am going to be aem ems tuning hopefully next week

yeah i had to subtract 28% fuel at idle with the EX head and cam on the lx ecu for it not to cut off...still is rich too cause you can smell the unburnt gas at idle. Runnin 13.5 by my AEM UEGO at WOT. Anyways the tuners open in an hour and i gotta get my shizzy together...i will list my findings tonight most likely.

Word is the coolant calibrations you get in the 30-1030 EMS are WRONG!!! That is the prob now . Long story short we trouble shot ALL the electrical wiring for the coolant system (per AEM tech support) and the cal files are wrong for coolant system values....waiting for feedback on the right #'s as of now. We are VARY close now just gotta work out this issue so the car will idle worth a crap...sorry guys but trust me it is the "birthin pains" that got us now....trying to bring this baby to life. We have worked through a few problems now. had ECU fuses blowin for now reason....green wire for the AEM supplied harness to the factory ECU pulled out and got fixed....lot of little stuff...plus the tuner is not AEM certified so we are figuring it out as we go (cheaper tune....heh. Is all good tho, I am learning a lot about this car and tuning in general. I will post a complete summary once we get it all figured out. FYI this starts again tomorrow AM....that is right day 3 of getting the EMS to work. Wish us luck and keep it tuned here kiddies for all your tuning fun (or headaches in my case).

Coolant temp prob i bet you have...i am saying that setting it for "honda" is not working on mine. I am having to directly input the values from info i am going to get from AEM. They were telling me that it was my coolant system wiring so we looked over ALL of it....I have a ETM so that helped alot. I would like to know if you have the same problem or not. They were telling me that it was my wiring, then it was the sensor (which was working fine with the stock ecu) and the coolant gauge will not register.......basically it is out of calibration...when it is 60deg F it reads -40deg.....way out of the range it should be...so the gauge stays pegged at cold....now you get it? My tuner is going to talk to them tomorrow. Having a "Trained" tuner will mos def have it go faster as far as tuning goes...but these are "bugs" as we see it....that the system was not calibrated right, and interfacing issues. We did have one wiring issue that we fixed other than the green wire pulling out, but we are using rsx-s injectors and AEM UEGO gauge type wideband too...so some of it was interfacing so to speak, long story short.
so you say your getting check engine lights daily? can you let us know what the codes are saying?
i was going to get the stage 2 cam for my turbo setup but daily check engine lights are probably going to scare me away because if i get my car inspected in this state a cel will give me a reject sticker. the idle doesnt bother me so much though.
maybe ill either get stage 1 or nothing.

hmm, well i think im going to have to think about this and look around more before i decide what cam to use, although ive looked around alot already.
i dont want to run the stage 1 and if its throwing these codes than the stage 1 should throw them too becuase its still higher lift and longer duration than stock.
was your idle real rough with the stage 2? like was it just kinda shaky or real violent like it was about to die?

hmmmm
well i just shelled out 1200 for an emanage with every harness and the tool. and various other goodies so i cant go spend that much again on ems.
im considering risking it and attempting to fix the idle problem with the help of all the car gurus like myself that i go to school with including teachers. (auto major)
although it sounds like a pain in the **** so maybe ill jsut go stage 1 and spend the other 300 (since i dont need springs) on hid's or something.

Guys I see most members keep saying bad things about the cams stage 2, 1, 3 etc.. ( all kinds of ****) I have in the stage 3 and the idle is not bad the car just shakes a bit because of the loppyness. One of the problems that the car does have is that it runs too too rich. And I think that is because one of the parameters that our car uses to determine how much fuel to inject is the MAP sensor, and because of the cam's high lift and duration, this alters the manifold pressure and the stock ECU just says dump all fuel possible.

so = if i got a stage 2 turbo cam with a turbo setup and i had the emanage with the pressure sensor and all harnesses to tune with, (map sensor blocked off by a box dealy like dezods missing link).
would i be able to get it to run smooth (i dont care about rough idle or searching idle, as long as it doesnt die ill call it running smooth lol) ??
and do you think cel's would still come up?

I have absoutly nothing to tune with right now and while idling the car does not die. Definately with tuning the car will run even better performance wise. The only thing to worry about after tuning would be to ged rid of the rev limiter because the emanage cannot do that, and the cam begs for higher revs.

Kezay you forgot idle can be moved from stock to any point on EMS, also no more rev limit for top speed either!
My stage 2 with a Lx to EX head swap and Stage 2 it would ALWAYS cut off at idle (lx ecu was flodding it) till I had the VAFC2 tuned. Then it was better...still rough idle tho, I have the motor mount inserts and that does not help a bit....stock it felt like it ldled hard so with this cam you can immagine.

My stage 2 turbo cam with ex head swap and the cam installed with emanage it idles fine. It hads more fuel because of what Kezay said but other than that its fine. I am also upgrading to the aem ems soon so i shouldn't have to worry about anything
