Since we're all talking about oil. Has anyone used Amsoil? I was reading oil comparisons etc for 5-20, 0-20, 5-30 etc. and saw quite a few sites. All seem to be pushing Amsoil, so I'm sure it's made by them. But some of the info on their sites is interesting.

I can't imagine not changing the oil like they claim to do, but it's 100% from what car makers tell you to do.

Any thoughts on amsoil or is this just some big scam?

Flashlightboy is an unknown quantity at this point
Amsoil is a good oil as are many others. Undoubtedly most of the sites you are looking at are from Amsoil dealers. While everyone has the right to hawk their wares, I think you should look at the unbiased technical information and compare it with other oil manufacturers' data before determining an appropriate application.

My big beef with Amsoil is that you can't buy it OTC, at least not where I'm at. I can get Redline at a local shop and M1 0w-20 too.

engines and their oil systems are designed by people that get paid a lot more than us and are a lot smarter, true there is trial and error, but would it be smart of honda to design an engine that would wear its self out after 100k miles? they would have to sell more cars, but fewer people would buy them because they'd be poor quality. why do people love honda's so much, they're reliable, even with 160k, bad piston rings, and a ton of other problems, my 94 ex took a lot of hard driving from me and never fell apart. so i believe in honda's design and the use of the oil specified (in stock form) true, once boosted or heavy mods are added, you'll need to change that. thats just my $.02 -- Jeremy
