I'm thinking about clearing my headlights right now, but I don't have an amber bulb for the turn signal. Before taking off my front bumper, I think it wise to just ask if the bulb underneath the yellow reflector is yellow or not.
Also, does anyone think that clearing the headlights of my bone stock civic is gonna look bad?
Thanks.

It seems that I don't have jackstands... I guess I'll have to wait. Thanks, though.
As for painting my inserts, I think I'll wait on that because, once I paint them, I can't go back.
Thanks again.

Another two questions:
1) The bumper cover isn't too heavy for a little girl [my sister] to help me carry it, right?
2) I never thought of the cost of jackstands-- how much would they run for at Pep Boys or Kragen?
Thanks.

uh you don't need jackstands to take off your bumper. me and my friend have taken off our bumpers umpteenzillion times without jacking the car up on stands.
All you need is your dirtiest pair of beater clothes, a mat to catch your bumper, and a flathead and a phillips screwdriver.
Don't be afraid to get down and dirty to clear those lights!

uh... just take it off it makes it much easier. It's like what.... 4 screws and 8 tabs. Took me and another guy 50 seconds approx to do.
There are about 3 or 4 screws holding in the headlights... if you don't mind stretching and gettin scuffed up and bending ur bumper all the way down to the floor then by all means try to get those screws off by only taking the bumper off halfway (the top tabs and the wheel screws only).
But at a cost of like 1.5 minutes to you..... why not have it easier?

Alright. I got help coming, anyways. It's getting dark now, too.
Any quick do's and don't's, besides "don't touch the chrome" and "don't get the goo on the chrome"?

Taking the front bumper off is so easy you will get sick of it after the 1rst time you do it. I clearned my lights couple days ago.... then they fogged up and I had to re do it, the worst part was taking the bumper on and off. It is soooo freaking boring and easy. I dont think it even takes me a minute any more, mainly because I only have like 4 tabs left. Good luck
TIP: make sure you use some "masking tape" to tape around those black sticky stuff (glue) on the headlight.....so when you pull the chrome insert out or put back in, you dont get any black sticky stuff in your chrome parts......

dude!!! you don't even have to do that i did mine the easy way. Once you take the headlight out take off the metal part and then preheat your oven to 200 degrees and when it's did pop that baby in there on a cookie sheet for 8 minutes, take it out and gently with a flat tip screw driver pry up the black part of the headlight and don't do it to much so it doesn't come out jagged and work around it until you can start pullin it apart and the seal will stretch kinda, so take your screwdriver to just cut it in half. once you get it apart undo the one screw that attaches the chrome piece and take the chrome piece out. and if you are gonna leave it chrome be careful not to smudge it with your body oils from your finger. the first one i had to clean and the second time i put gloves on. takin out the orange piece is easy. ok now put it back together and throw that bad boy back into the oven for 4 minutes and take it out and push the pieces together so the seal on each piece touches eachother and once it dries boom it's as good as it first was. i did mine like that and it's rained 4 times since then and there is no water in them and no fogging at all.

^^ exactly how I did mine. Use the oven and reseal with the original goo. Just put something under them. I got goo drops in the oven and my mom got pissed.
The reflector piece was loose, so I took some goo and smeared it on the back to keep it in place.

Hrm. The oven idea seems to be appealing, but I'm a little clear on the "pry up the black part of the headlight and don't do it to much so it doesn't come out jagged and work around it until you can start pullin it apart and the seal will stretch kinda, so take your screwdriver to just cut it in half" part.
I guess I'll be able to figure it out. Just.... cut what in half?

The two halves are held in by goo and also by some tabs that you will have to pry up to remove. Just pry all sides first before pulling the headlight apart. The goo will get more liquidy the longer it stays in the oven.

yeah, and the part about cuttin in half part was when i wsa pullin mine apart the original goo stuff was drying so it was really stretchy so i used my screw driver to jab at it to cut it so i can completely remove the lense. believe me once you start doin it you'll understand what me and gearbox are talkin about. the oven way is the easiest and also the fastest way to do this so i'd do it this way if i were you. also like gearbox said make sure you put it on somethin.what i did was put wax paper on a cookie sheet and set the headlight on that.

cut the goo in half. it will stretch between the opening sides of the headlight..... use ur screwdriver tip to basically cut it down as if ur screwdriver were some kind of machete. that way the glue won't stretch and contact ur chrome. then push the glue back onto the sides where they belong with ur fingers. it's kinda like clay.
when resealing put gobs of clear silicone headlight sealant after pressing them together after being heated in the oven. I find that smoothing the sealant out with your finger to make about a one cm band of sealant to both sides and on top of the crevice provides for a watertight seal. wait for the sealant to dry for at least half an hour before reinstalling or u will get it on ur hands, jacket, shirt, and headlight clear part.

Just use the original goo to seal them back up. It's stupid to use silicon and there's really no need. The headlights will never be completely sealed. Water vapor can still get in through the parking light and turn signal bulb sockets.
