Questions about buying a 7th gen- which options

Hi I'm new here, all I've done so far is admire the member's rides...

I'm about to get my license and I'm looking into buying an 01-05 civic.
Once I get it, I want to do some modifications, starting with lowering it.

Being in high school, I want to be able to fit my friends in my car, so my first question is:

Is the back seat of the coupe hard or uncomfortable to get in/out of?
If so, would a sedan be more difficult to work on, modification wise?

Also, I'm debating the stick vs auto question

and finally, I've mostly been looking at the EX because of the V-TEC engine, but does it make that much of a difference? and is it worth it to get the EX vs the LX?

Any advice or help is appreciated and btw my budget is around $4500

I have a 98 Civic Ex Coupe and I think the back seats aren't difficult to get into and they have plenty of legroom. Of course, I'm used to a 97 Toyota Corolla sedan so if you were used to a bigger car then maybe you would think the back seats don't have enough room. It comes down to personal preference I guess.

I don't think I can answer your V-TEC question since I don't know much about it. Good luck on your search.

Re: Questions about buying a 7th gen- which options

I have a coupe, the backseat is a little tight but not that bad. The interior overall is very roomy for a coupe. I may be wrong, but I dont think a sedan is going to be any more difficult to work on than a coupe (though I think you can get away doing more to a coupe than to a sedan). I personally would go with a stick shift. This is my first stick shift car and its not that hard to learn, its fun, and the automatic transmissions have a bit of a reputation for being problematic. I have an LX, it is a tad bit slow, however if you have stick shift you can counter that a bit by keeping the engine in its powerband more than you could with automatic. I dont think the extra 12 hp gain with an EX would be THAT big of a difference, though I totally understand why you want one, Vtec is nice. Lastly, you will be very limited with that budget, I was in your position not too long ago. You may need to consider a 6th gen civic.

Sorry for the long post lol, hope it helps! Good luck to you!

Re: Questions about buying a 7th gen- which options

i prefer a coupe i got my civic when i was 17. insurance didnt change much so i wouldnt worry about that if that is also one of the things you are debating. and about getting your friends in and out the backseat is very small in a coupe but you can fit 2 people back there comfortably and 3 if your friends dont mind being a lil uncomfortable. youll just have people fighting for shotgun a lot lol. and get stick if you can find it. i have an automatic. it hasnt had any problems since i got it and its has 103 thousand miles on it but stick would be more fun to drive. and ex vs lx. lx isnt that bad just no vtec and no abs and no sunroof. and your budget of 4500 is kinda low if you want to pay in cash. if you save up a little longer you can get an lx or if you can find a 7th gen civic for 4500 that would be great.
