Increasing Gas Mileage on my 96 EX

I read on adding parts Cold air intake, Headers, Exhaust onto their newer model Civics. I have a 96 EX, what will get me the most mpg out of it, adding the parts mentioned above. I have already replaced the spark plugs, wires, rotor. Would it be worth it to replace the piston rings.

intake will add a bit of mileage, header and exhaust is mostly useless. the stock parts are already matched to the engine air flow. can upgrade the ignition to MSD

Do you have alot of miles of the motor, why do you want to rebuild your motor. Did you replace your fuel filter or get a motorvac?

You are talking about a lot of money to rebuild the engine. You can buy a lot of gas for that.

If you have a lot of kilometres on you vehicle you can always change the oxygen sensor. Other things to consider are exhaust leaks, changing your oil regularly with a good quality engine oil, checking your airfilter and cleaning it if required, make sure your cooling system is functioning properly. A poor working thermostat can cause poor gas mileage.

Honda had problems with there exhaust manifold cracking right where the o2 sensor bolted in to the manifold. That cause poor gas mileage because air would flow into the carck right at the sensor and the sensor would see an increase in oxygen content so the computer would compensate by adding fuel.
Hope this helps with your decision!
