Help!! Won't go over 4k

I have a 2000 Civic Hx. Was driving fine until I floored it. Started to sputter and won't rev over 4000 rpm. When I let it sit it'll run fine and go over until I reach 5-6k then it'll sputter and not go over 4000 rpm again. I have no check engine light. I cleaned the vtec screen in the solenoid. It just will not work. It's completely stock d16y5 engine except the cold air intake. Please help!

Check engine light? Highly likely you do. Find the code and report back

edit: clearly I can't read. You said no check engine light. There could be the slim chance the CEL bulb is burnt out, however

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

If CEL bulb doesn't work you ought to fix that. It may be ugly but it's damn handy.
It's supposed to turn on for a short while when you turn the key on before you start the engine.

And make sure the car is on level ground, not on a sloped driveway
