Civic stalls out and won't turn back on

So I have a 87 civic I have had issue to we're i be driving and suddenly the car stalls out and when I try to turn it back on it won't turn back on,I can crank it but then once I release the key it turns off automatically I try to give it gas but it won't pump the gas I just had the fuel filter replace and disturb distributor cap and rotor replace but it still didn't fix the problem I think it's the fuel pump I don't think it's getting the gas it needs I sprayed starter fluid in the carburetor and it didn't do anything but the mechanic that did it the repairs said he sprayed starter fluid in the vehicle and it was able to turn over and stay on but 12 hours later after receiving the car back it's stalled out and it wouldn't turn back over but I'm able to turn it over and hear it try the idle but it won't idle what is my solution I'm thinking about buying a new fuel pump and replacing it because the car does get hot it does surge while I'm idling on a car at a stop sign please help me with a solution so I don't lose my only transportation

...did you test the original coil?

-Test all ignition related components before replacing them.
If you don't know how just google "ignition coil test civic diy".

Why? Was yours bad?

but then once I release the key it turns off
The "ignition switch failing" guess was based entirely on this clue I quoted above.

if somebody replaced if AAA replace my distributor cap and router and didn't put it in correctly well that cause the vehicle to stall out and not turn over because of the distributor not being timed correctly

It probably wouldn't have run right in the first place.

Re: Civic stalls out and won't turn back on

So after the car stalls out while you're driving along, how do you get it started again?

I don't start it doesn't turn over my mechanic just called me today and told me it's my ignition switch 280 bucks for the whole thing to be done with labor 200 without part if I order it or just 80 bucks if I buy it and put it in myself how easy of an install is an ignition switch

I guessed right LOL

It's easy for me, but I can't speak for you and your abilities.

You'll have to do your own research and decide that for yourself.

BTW I don't know what parts you found, but it needs just the electrical portion, not the column lock and key cylinder.
