Rep Power: 0 stuck spark plug boots?
I am doing a head gasket swap on my friends 1997 civic with the 1.6 v4. I have literally almost completed the entire swap but the only issue I am having is the plastic wire guide to the top of the spark plugs. I can't for the life of me get them out. I've tried yanking, pulling, all the above. Any suggestions?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

These things?
Are you trying to get it off of the valve cover, or what?
If my guess is wrong, post some pics of what you are talking about.
This gets entertaining after the 7 minutes mark

Oh.....I get it now. It must have had some crappy plug wires, you are gonna need another set now.
Twist the tube and see if the rubber will break loose before pulling up on it.
Dig them out however you can.... needle nose pliers, rounded pliers, hook tool?

So basically, I need to disconnect the wiring to the plugs... Then remove the plastic wire guide however possible? I tried really hard with one... I snapped it into several pieces trying to remove it. I have no problem with buying new ones... I plan on it. I am going to change the plugs though so I need to figure out how to remove them. I was thinking that they melted to the valve cover but they still rotate and move. I've read from other sources there is a tool from Honda for this?

No, there isn't any special Honda tool for this.
I've got a ton of tools in my box to choose from, I'm sure I could figure out a way to get it out of there if it happened to me...
Since it has to be replaced I know I do not need to get it out in one useable piece.
Bust it up, yank, tug, pull, break it, melt it, whatever you have to do to get it out of there.
Use a hook tool to get under it.
Don't have anything like that? Bend a coat hanger into a hook shape, make it into a tool.....
Then heat it up red hot and stuff it down the side and get it under the plastic tube, then let it cool a bit, then lift up?
Needlenose pliers to get the clip left from yanking the wire out...
Whatever you do, try to avoid damaging the metal tube that is part of the cylinder head.
And try to not get plastic chunks inside the engine. Put the valve cover back on for this.
I don't think you can get a spark plug socket on the plug until the wire remnants are out of the way (unless you have some super deep plug socket), so do whatever you gotta do to make it happen.
