Reinforcement to why I change my own oil...
Reinforcement to why I change my own oil...
I was waiting to pull out into the street yesterday, and directly across the street was one of those 15 minute oil change places. I knew that there was no way that they got all of the old oil out, but dang, I watched the guy put a plug back in and there was still one hell of a stream of oil coming out of that car. I can't imagine that much old oil can be good for an engine. I'm sure they get most of it, but really, WTF. Ok, rant over.

You only drain maybe 80-90% of the oil out during an oil change, you can never get 100% out.
They just lowered the percentage a little more, that's all.

Here is a copy paste of something I compiled some time ago!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I would suggest that no one should get services done on their car at any Jiffy Lube location! Also I have big suspicions about EZ-lube
News investigators done a few years ago have found that they often recommend maintenance such as engine and transmission flushes and say that it is required by the manufacture for every x miles even though the car manufacture says the service can cause damage!!
The reports also show that they don't always do the maintenance that you pay for!
Also they have been known to occasionally forget to put new oil in the engine after draining the old oil out and don't want to take the blame!

They also might not use the correct transmission fluid for your car if you do transmission service there: Transmission fluid is not genericish like engine oils or coolant, although with oil you have to follow the right viscosity and additives and with coolant you have to follow the right corrosion inhibitor package that's compatible with your car, otherwise there are warranty issues and possible long term damage. Transmission fluid is different and proprietary for all manufactures and a lot of transmissions are picky on what fluid you use.

Lots of other recent occurances: http://www.ripoffreport.com/director...-lube.aspx?p=1
The investigation;
Stay Away and have the work done at a reputable private shop.
There is also the very slight chance that a shop rag might end up in your engine!

Don't go to Walmart either to get your oil changed;
And if somehow the key gets stuck in your ignition and the guys at Jiffy Lube can't shut off the engine, they might change the oil while leaving the engine running!
Ridiculous!

You can get shizzy service from almost any knuckle dragging mouth breathing clown with a shoebox full of tools, no matter if they work at a JizzyLube, an independent shop, or a dealership.
Most businesses depend on low wage employees to generate the bulk of the revenue. Very few businesses retain a full staff of rocket surgeons.
Sad facts.
Quick story: One kid that was changing oil in or shop....quit. Went to go apply at a couple different JizzyLube type places. They absolutely will not hire him, he has too much experience. Even though all he did was change oil in a dealership, that was far too much valuable experience for them. He wasn't asking for high wages either.
What does that tell you?

So many fluids throughout these industries are now engineered for extremely specific applications, it isn't even funny.
Most people just have no clue how much has changed in our fluid industry over the last couple of decades.
What may have been true just a few years ago, may no longer be true.
Misconceptions and misbeliefs still abound.
