once a year if you drive average of 10k miles. but if its clean, maybe you live in a low-dust area and then you should be fine going longer. the paper does start to come apart after time due to moisture and old age, so i wouldnt go more than 2 yrs if you dont do much driving.

Thanks alot for your help gearbox. I'm shocked that my filter doesn't look much dirtier as I don't remember changing it in the 3 years I've owned it. Does it make any difference that I don't have AC? I just remember seeing my familys old van's filter and you could REALLY tell that it needed replacement. This one doesn't.

it just depends on the location i guess. some areas have tons of farm dust or desert dust plus if there is alot of traffic, brake dust too. so it adds up faster. open country i doubt you would ever get it dirty enough to change. some model civics also have cabin filters behind the glove box that need to be changed, otherwise it will affect a/c performance (the fan wont blow as hard).
