25 micron filtration sounds impressive but can't help but wonder if there might be some reduction in oil flow. It may not be enough for the light to come on but could still have slightly lower oil pressure. Don't know, just a thought.

Re: poll: what oil filter do you use?

I use the oem one when i have a chance but normally i use the fram. Since fram USED to make the OEM honda filters until recently ( some company in penisylvania makes them now according to the dealer) i figured it was good enough for me. Sometimes i use the K&N just depends whats on sale and where i buy my oil i guess.

use Amsoil Oil and Amsoil Filter. They said that you can drive it for 25k oil change interval but I change every 8-10k about 2 time a year for both of my cars.

anyone have an opinion about using ZDDP additives in our oil? I used it in my 944turbo but that's because oil was different 25 years ago....

Re: poll: what oil filter do you use?

I use purolator pure one filters because they're $3 and whatever name brand oil is on sale... no additives... and my cars have always run great, I even race some autocross. don't waste money on fancy stuff... maybe synthetic oil if you're making your civic a track car or something, I don't know, I've never used it... but I got 250000 miles out of a ford with this stuff and my civic is going strong at about 150000

Re: poll: what oil filter do you use?

i was in walmart getting honda power steering fluid and I came across something interesting. WALMART BRAND 5W-30 and 10W-30 SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL FOR $4! It meets all APL and EPA and ABC and XXX and ETC certifications that all the other brands have to meet, but three bucks a quart cheaper. You guys think it's worth it to try?

Re: poll: what oil filter do you use?

haha i knew that was coming. but i mean it sounded kinda like a good idea at first to use oil that met all the APL standards for 3 dollars less. I'm a firm believer in Castrol and it would take a lot to sway me away from it. The new OEM fill is Mobil but still Castrol is what I use.

Re: poll: what oil filter do you use?

Yeah, it may meet the standards, but I 'm a machinist, and I use to work at a shop that sent our work to China, and over the next couple of years before they actually closed us down, I got to see the quality of this stuff that met ISO9000 standards, it was junk. Companies that are good don't just meet the standards, the people making the stuff have their own standards that should be higher than the minimum.

Yeah, I just don't trust Wal-Mart brand stuff in my car. Just about everything else we buy from there, hell, my wife works there.

Looks like you've got your 'Vic built. I'd like to build a block for mine someday, if I get any extra cash.

Mobil one shows high iron in used oil data see Bob Is The Oil Guy, some say it means nothing others say it means alot. As always with this kind of guy in the diner talk, you have to draw from your own gut feelings.

Re: poll: what oil filter do you use?

IMHO mobil is expensive orverrated crap. Took them four years to pass the japaneese tourture tests that castrol had passed several years prior. I've broke that oil down in 1200 miles whereas i still had 1200 left after 3000 miles of hard driving on castrol. Yes that is with an oil analysis. And their fuel is expensive! Shell 93+V-power+N all the way! Otherwise BP/Chevron. I'm really picky about what fuel I use in my vehizzle. Mobil FTL

Re: poll: what oil filter do you use?

GUYS I KNOW WHATS THE BEST FILTER TO USE

over on crsx some guy took apart all the filters, and compared the insides of them

come to find out, NAPA makes the best filters.

OEM is the same as FRAM
and all the others fall some where in between.

napa gold is an excellent oil filter. i tend to stick with k&n cause i always have trouble getting my old filter off and i need the socket lol. valvoline is also excellent oil, even the conventional stuff. i will use maxlife for as long as i own the car.

Thanks Gearbox, I have heard it was great oil, but I'm glad to have your confirmation of that.

I used to use Fram oil filters until I read this study:

Now, I use Mobil 1 or Purolator or Honda

I feel like the Honda MTF breaks down quickly. I'm really not that impressed so far. Shifting doesn't feel any better than 10w-30 either.

Guys... please. Don't use Fram. Use Wix instead. Relatively cheap, and a heck of a lot better oil filter. Even the overpriced K&N is way better. Try to get puralator, if you can.

The Fram Extended Guard is a great filters. I would agree that people shouldn't use the orange can Fram. There's better filter for lower price. You can pick up a Super Tech for almost $2 less and it's a better filter.

Re: poll: what oil filter do you use?

so youre saying 92-94% filtration is good? which fram even puts on the box? when other filters the same price maybe $4 (purolator pure one) filters 99.9%?? i would never use a fram even if it cost $10 cheaper and risk a messed engine.

The above thread contains information on why FRAM is bad.

"Filter Ruins Another Motor
Frequent Rebuilds Are Mandatory
Forget Reaching Advanced Mileage
Frequently Reusing Awful Materials
Fully Recirculates All Metal
Faultiness Really A Mission
Filtration Ruined After Mounting"

I kinda like the "Orange Can" acronyms
