valve spring colors

I've searched with a little luck but nothing specific. 2001 Honda Civic D17 not Vtec valve spring colors, I have 8 with blueish green, smaller wire, slightly taller, and 8 with yellowish orange which are a little shorter with bigger wire, which one is which?

Re: valve spring colors

yellow is intake, blue is exhaust, paint marks go up.

fun fact: back in the day when "rice burner" implied cheap fun, for the cost of rice, people would use yellow on intake and exhaust as a performance upgrade to extend the rpm range(with matching cups/retainers).

Re: valve spring colors

One more quick question, I got this car with the valve cover off, the timing belt broke but they didn't replace the valves, so I don't know what went in that hole next to the bolt hole. I got a head gasket kit, timing kit, all new 16 valves, head was milled a little, valves lapped in, should put it back to running condition. Car was free too, 180K body needs a front fender and skirts, but all in all very fixable. PO didn't know ****.

I'm a simi-retired mechanic with no experience with Honda cars. So I got these 8 seals, I know the 4 hard ones are the spark tube seals but what are the softer ones for? Also I got a gates timing kit with WP< the new tensioner has a wire loop on it, what purpose that serve?

Re: valve spring colors

The other 4 are for the ignition coils, they replace the gaskets on the base.

I thought so...any idea what that spring loop is for on the tensioner, maybe a dampening device?

Re: valve spring colors

Ok new question, what is that gasket called that looks like a snowman, its like a triple O-ring, it goes on the back of the head. And is it possible to get the intake gasket on any other way but right, I know there are three studs but I don't recall if I actually got it on right since it was on the back of the head and my eyesight isn't that good.

Re: valve spring colors

The wire loop is to orientate the tensioner so that it can compensate for future wear, I've noticed so much wrong info on you tube and the net in general.
