Complete D17a2 Rebuild. OEM vs. Aftermarket parts

Greetings. Before i begin i will preface by saying that i am not inexperienced at wrenching. I have owned a 1984 HD FXRS for 17 years that i have completely rebuilt the transmission and am prepping to overhaul the engine this summer. That said, this IS my first complete tear down and rebuild of an iL4 engine.
My research skills are fine and i have a Bro who was an ASE Company certified Mechanic in a former life. Ok... enough of that.

My question relates to the internals of my '01 EM2, i.e., 1) Bearings: crankshaft, piston & thrust, 2) oil pumps, & 3) piston rings.

My spidey senses tell me that i should gravitate towards Honda Co. brand/OEM replacements. But, My conservative sense gravitates more towards time tested Clevite77 brands that are proven in race applications @ 500+hp and are considerably less expensive.
I am NOT chasing the HP dragon. Reliability and longevity are the mantras in this build.

The Oil Pump looks good, and no debris was ever found (by me). Albeit, I haven't had the car very long and it has 186k on the odo. So, honestly I don't know.
The shoddy work that was done before i got the car, that has led to this complete rebuild leads me to believe "Better Safe than Sorry."

So, has anyone here had any experience with a stock build using aftermarket parts, (Good/Bad) or Stay OEM?
Thoughts?
