Hi, I'm new to this forum.
Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I just got a 2000 honda civic dx with 275k miles and the manual trani won't work in third without some grinding noises. My other work car is a 2000 cavalier and I just swapped the engine this winter because I couldn't afford a new car payment so now there's nothing I can't do, hence the honda adoption. Th cav rockers and rear rails are rusting quickly. The honda is the opposite with only mechanical problems.
I'm a slow diyer this is a beater work car but love any opportunity to tinker especially if parts are inexpensive and I do like things running good and looking a little better than decent. No rust or peeling paint.
I've been scanning ebay for transmissions. Ebay seems like the best source for my needs. I can't afford getting screwed on craigslist.
The civic has rust at the bottom of the driver door and the rear driver fender has what looks like a rust hole the size of a quarter. The bumper must have been hit because it's not real flush with fender and has a five inch crack. Other than that the car is clean.
I honestly may just trade both cars for a newer one but not sure if I'll get 1500 for each. Just playing it day by day.
I know I'm all over the place but that's why I joined the forums to see if there's anyone else who was/is in my shoes and what you did. Thanks nice to met you all in advance.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Welcome to the forum!
If you are really ambitious, you could try fixing the trans yourself.
Otherwise, look at salvage yards...
