Rep Power: 285 MAD JDM! hood hinge shims..... would you and should i?
ive seen alot of threads about this on HT and after consideration i could care less if some people think my front end is busted. i think i might just do it from time to time like when im at the track or something, i highly doubt ill keep it like that everyday, but then again i might not, i guess the only way is through trying to see if it helps cool.
from what ive read it (althought i dont know how much i agree with alot of these) it will add downforce to front wheels, decrease engine temps, decrease air intake temps, create a vacuum to reduce drag, allow for more rapid air flow up through the engine bay, and for individual throttle bodies its said to act as ram air and really help to suck in that air.
again, you be the judge of what reason you want to believe but eitherway ill most likely try this once at the track or something once ive got a few more gauges to monitor everything.

Rep Power: 349 looks like the hood isn't on right. if you need cowl induction for itbs or whatever, get the proper hood for it.

Rep Power: 410 if i ever get into autocross with the miata, i'll have to do this. something about the 1.6L engine overheating easily...
my thoughts on this for a civic? well, if you have no money/don't want a new hood and it's only a temp solution, then go for it. if it's going to be like that everyday, be prepared for flaming.

Rep Power: 306 i have a friend with an fc, and a friend with an s14, and they both have done it. its pretty sweet, when its cold out you see steam coming from under the hood. so it must do something.

Rep Power: 0 Vented would probably be a better idea, hot air rises, it'd more efficiently exit out a top vent and see more ready induction through the top as well at speed. On previous muscle cars, raised hoods were for the sheer size of the block too, you swap in a Merlin big block you'll need to raise the hood somehow, even the new MSP6 has a raised hood for that very reason.
Plus it just looks bad...

oh and i not even once ever said id do this for looks, obviously it looks retarded. a little extra performance is worth it to me, over having someone think my hoods on wrong. btw there is no way to have hood like this from incorrect mounting, its just not possible, youd have to put the shims.

Or that the Corvettes are built in Mexico...
(Well... there's more change for coupes to be JDM than Corvettes being built in Mexico... )

diy is simple, remove hood bolts, get longer ones with washers or shims and replace them with shims between hood and hinge. you can do this one side at a time to make it easier on yourself.
