Rep Power: 0 Trouble Code P0497
I have a 2005 Honda Civic LX stock with no modifications(except stereo)
For the last few months my check engine light has been coming on and going off on its own. When it first came on I got it checked and the code was P0497. Before I could take it to the shop it went out. I tracked it over the next couple months and the light would come on when my car would get below 1/3 tank of fuel. After I would fill it back up it would go out a short time later. It slowly began to come on with my fuel tank at higher levels. So now its always on which makes it easier to troubleshoot. I had my codes read at autozone today and the guy told me I had a P0497 (EVAP system low purge flow). He also told me there was a P1496, but I believe that may have been stored in the reader from the previous vehicle. Has anyone run into this or a similar problem? Car runs fine, but I know something is not right, hence the light. I would like to fix it myself, don't have time to take it to the shop.

might be the purge valve is clogged or not working. the evap system unfortunately has many parts that can fail. alot of them are in the engine bay near the throttle body.

I tried the purge valve(it seems to be the easiest thing to change in the system) still has the same problem. Im not too worried about it at the moment because I don't see a change in my MPG and I can get the light to go out and pass emissions

I'm having the same problem at 130k with an 05 civic. I see this post is old but maybe you got it fixed and learned what it was? A mechanic told me a smoke test might be needed?
