DIY: replacing power window motor assembly on my civic coupe

My power window motor assembly broke so i replaced it today. I hope that these pictures will help anybody in the same situation as is was.
Start by removing the handle:

unclip the handle wire and power lock button if you have it:

remove this screw by the power window control panel:

disconnect the cable:

remove the 2 screws holding the door panel:

pop off this plastic piece by the mirror:

Now grip the panel from the bottem by the speaker, start popping off the panel:

rip off that white plastic on the door if you want:

Connect the window control panel back up and move the window up until you see the 2 bolts through the two holes on the door:

remove the window motor connector and unclip it from the door:

remove the window:

Remove the 4 bolts that hold the window slider:

Its out!

I hope this helps anybody who has a similar problem

Re: DIY: replacing power window motor assembly on my civic coupe

Good post.
I just got finished fixing my passenger side window. The process was exactly as you described, minus one part... My window was stuck in the down position! So removing the mounting bolts for the glass was a pain in the ***.
Once I took the motor unit out, found out everything was working perfectly. Unit ended up getting jammed. Put everything back in and now it actually works better.

Once you have everything out, its a good time to grease the track for a smoother ride.

Thanks!

^I would try directly applying power to the power window motor connector and see if the window can roll up. The easiest way to remove the window is to lift it up so that you can see the 2 bolts throught the 2 holes in the door

Pretty easy, you just unscrew it from the slider. If you were looking at it, you'd know what to do I'm pretty sure. Getting the door's plastic bits and whatnot off is probably the biggest chore... all I can say is be careful with the metal tools, they kill plastic like a mo.

This was a great post. My driver side window pwr regulator assy cable snapped and this post saved me big bucks by showing me how to do it myself on my 2001 Civic LX

I saw on other postings where I could get the power window regulator assembly online. I saw places like MajesticHonda.com it's $179.00. Their site has some errors. They had 3 parts listed.

Power window regulator assy 59.00
Power window regulator assy 179.00
Power window regulator 59.00

I called to find out which one was the right part for my car. They told me the obvious...the 179.00 part.

I also checked some other sites that sell "Direct OE Fit" parts. I IM'd the technical support and they told me that it's an aftermarket part from Dorman that will work - price 77.00. Some other aftermarket parts sites sell others like Dorman for as low as 52.00.

I was visiting the Hamilton, NJ area and I called the local Honda dealer. Hamilton Honda. price...$80.07 + tax.
for the whole assembly. So check locally and compare prices.

Out of curiosity, I also called the Lakeshore Honda Dealer in Toronto, ON, Canada. And surprise the part costs $225.00 CAD. What exchange rate are they using?

It's not hard. Except for pulling out those white **** things that hold the door trim in place. If you have one of those forked flat head screw driver tools that removes this trim holder grommet. It's super easy.

Re: DIY: replacing power window motor assembly on my civic coupe

for this DIY, do you have to roll the window down while removing the door panel? or should you keep it rolled up?

Thanks. The part cost 50$ w/ shipping off ebay, and it took me about 1 hour to do! Easy. Thanks again.

Re: DIY: replacing power window motor assembly on my civic coupe

I agree with the other posts. This was extremely helpful, it would have taken me MUCH longer to figure this out on my own. The only problem I ran into was in reinstalling the window. The motor is moving the window really well, but after it gets past about halfway down it binds up a little and won't go all the way down. Any tips on how to properly reinstall the window?

^^^ Make sure your upper and lower tracks/channels are clean and also make sure the rubber inserts are not deformed or out of place.

I also would like to know if there are any other changes that would need to be made if the window is stuck in the up position?
