Question changing a clutch on a 2001 civic ex

I'm ready to start working on my car. Any advice for changing the clutch, or is it pretty much straight forward?

Its fairly easy. Just make sure to support your tranny when you drop it because you do not want to bend the input shaft. Make sure to resurface or get a new flywheel and pressure plate. Also dont forget to replace throw out bearing. When you go back together, you should not have to force it together. You dont want to mess the splines up if you force it.

Re: changing a clutch on a 2001 civic ex

So far so good. But now I'm at the point where I need to remove the axles. Is there an easy way to remove the lower "A-arm" (not sure what it's called) without the Honda tool? Once I get the axles off, I should have the car up and running soon.

Also, I'll be getting a new clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing tomorrow.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Im not to sure about those drive axels. A-arm or lower control arm but you should be able to remove with regular tools. Your best bet would be to get a bentley or hanes manual. If you are spending the money to get all that, get a better flywheel but you will need to resurface the OEM one if you do not get a new one.! And since your doing all this tranny work, you should flush it and put in some good synthetic tranny oil. Look at this pic. maybe it will help.

Re: changing a clutch on a 2001 civic ex

Great picture/diagram! Thanks. I have plenty of tools, to include a sledge hammer (I used a sledge hammer taking off an A-arm before, but this Honda one looks kind weak, and I'm worried I'll bend it). And ideas how to separate the A-arm from the ball joint? Or just "tap" it until it pops out?

Again, thanks for your help!

About 10 hours. But I marked EVERY bolt with tape and amarker so I knew exactly where it went. This helped alot, because after this job, I didn't have any extra parts.
