Timing belt

My daughter owns a 2002 Civic with a little over 99000 miles. Should she have had the timing belt and water pump changed at this point? I'm not familiar with Hondas but this is what I've heard.

Re: Timing belt

yup 90k is actually a safer mileage (old schelude pre 01), even tho the updated schedule says to wait until 110k miles. i would have it done now because the engine could die if the belt snapped. water pump is also a good bet to replace since everything will already be taken off, and replacing it will be easy. so for parts, you just need the belt, water pump, and some coolant. maybe some cam seals if the ones on there cant be reused.

I did mine at 105k and was fine, but yeah schedule it as soon as convenient, especially if you live in an extremely cold or warm climate - heat and cold cycles will shorten belt life.

Gratuitous plug: My DIY for the timing belt replacement.

Re: Timing belt

i got my 02 civic timing belt changed at 72,000 cause the belt was starting to slip
it cost me 600$ for the belt, water pump, accessory belts and labor
but that was at the dealer
im sure it can be done cheaper

I'm going to attempt it this spring with the gratious walkthrough above. Hopefully I can get it done without any major problems.
