Lug bolt twisted off
Hi, I had a bad valve stem on my tire so I got it fixed and had the donut on it just to run around. Well I was taking the lug nuts off and this one would turn a few turns and then just locked. Could barely turn it loose or tight so I just had to keep trying to turn it to loosen it. Well the lug bolt snapped off !! Is that a standard bolt or a metric one? How does one put a new bolt on there? Does the rotor have to come off? Would like to do it myself if it isn't too much work to replace the bolt. Suggestions? thanks..... hope my bad luck is done.

happens all the time with honda. I have had about 8 so far snap on me. Just buy a new wheel stud from honda or a auto parts store. For the front, the wheel hub needs to be removed in order to replace it. on the rear, it can be easily knocked in.

Rep Power: 0 really, how hard is it to get the wheel hub off? Does the brake caliper have to come off. Should I just get a new lug nut or have them tap the broken bolt out of it. thanks.

another question. Is this thing safe to drive with one lug broke off ?? The other 3 are good and tight. I work about 40 miles away and would get it fixed there. if not I will have to wait and find someone local. thanks

Rep Power: 230 It is safe. But It might mess up the 2 studs next to the missing stud. If there is enough left of the stud see if you can get a tuner lug over it, I was able to do that on mine. There is a DIY with pictures here if you feel you are mechanically capable of doing it yourself, I was and have had no problems with my new wheels.

Rep Power: 230 The wheel studs are like $2 at Advanced Auto. I just replaced them 
Cost like $8 to replace all the ones that broke on mine and about an hour of work. Just make sure you have all the tools on-hand before you begin. Thats what took all the time for me.

Got my rod back tonight..... costed only $32. That was a new bolt and the lug nut. Back on the road.
