Pump your tires up a couple of pounds. If you're running 30, then run 32. Don't floor it and use the cruise control on long stretches.

i heard if you put magnets on the fuel line near the throttle body you could get better gas mileage, but i think its bs. it was from this site that sells neodymium-iron boride magnets... extremely powerful magnets indeed. they can hold each other and almost never let go.

That's not advisable considering the whole car is electronic. The only way that'll save you gas milage is by scrambling the computer to not running.

I hear running higher octane fuel (pointless in our cars though) and spark plugs that burn fuel better make a little difference

Here are some easy things you can do to improve gas mileage:

1) oil changes every 3000-4000 miles
2) rotate tires every 1500-2000 miles
3) keep tires properly inflated
4) make sure your intake isn't too dirty
5) drive smart - anticipate traffic and ease up on the throttle; don't speed excessively
6) make sure your engine is warmed up sufficiently before driving

There really isn't a gimmick add-on that you can buy that will increase gas mileage. Just follow these simple tips and you'll notice a difference immediately.

The Civic Hybrid actually has more torque than a Civic EX (lower peak hp, though). It's actually not that slow and has surprising pep for a gas-electric hybrid. It's a nice little car, and if they drop the price in the future, I think you'll see a lot more of them on the road.

changing your oil with the honda oil recommended for the car will boost your mpg a lot! i used to change my oil at like jiffy lube or whatever, but then went into honda for my 20k and they put in the special oil they made thats new and no one else has or something and its totally giving me better gas milage.

The Honda oil isn't anything special. They probably just used 5w-20, which is thinner than the 30-weight oil that Jiffy Lube uses. Hence the better gas mileage.

on this site it says that driving with the windows open is actually bad for gas mileage; it is better to use the a/c.... i've never heard this? i thought it was better to avoid a/c for best gas mileage

Think of it this way. You are driving down a long road and will not be doing much stopping at all. If you have your windows open, the air that travels in slows down the car similar to what a parachute does but no where near as dramatic. The A/C would use less power to get the same or better result. Especially if you have tinted windows and that our A/C is very good. My insight on that!

Couldn't have said it better.

For mods that you can do that might help, free up your exhaust flow (header, high flow cat., cat-back exhaust) and lower the temp of your air intake and increase the flow (CAI or SRI). The beginner basics of modifying a car, Intake/Header/Exhaust. I heard that better spark plugs do well to gas mileage too.

I've never heard of this before. And that interval sounds kinda excessive. For me, that's like once or twice a month. Did you actually mean 15-20,000 miles?

Even if it did make a difference, I'd rather pay that extra 1 or 2 dollars you save in gas per month (if it is even that much), than go through the pain of so much tire rotation. Not to mention all the wear and tear you put on your lugs and rims from so many rotations.

I think he's just foolin' with ya. That stupid thing will probably hurt gas mileage AND performance rather than help it. Look at it this way: If something so simple worked even a tiny bit, would'nt the great Honda engineers incorporate it into the design? That tornado thing reminds me of that stupid sticker people put in the back of their cellphones...

Dealerships will usually do a rotation every 1500 or 2500 miles. It's just like changing oil - doing it a little more frequently won't do any harm. America's Tire / Discount Tire will even do it free of charge for you. And it's really so much the gas savings, as the savings you'll get from not wearing out your tires as quickly.
