How many rpms at 70mph?

Just curious, since I've never been in another 7th gen civic at 70mph due to no one I know owning one..

When I'm cruising at 70mph, my tach reads about ~3400rpms. Is this what you get? Thanks for any replies.

Also at 80mph(~4000rpms) I always feel like i'm pushing the engine too hard from being at that high or rpm.. I know Honda engines(or most 4-cylinder engines in general) run at higher rpms, but sometimes I wonder if I'm damaging my engine. Someone please re-assure this n00b that its okay to run my engine at this high of rpms.. thanks.

It all depends on when u shift, and if you have an auto, it depends on how fast you accelerate, and 4000rpm is not much at all, hurting your engine is at 7000 rpm, our engines just sound loud so u thing u r hurting it.

i dont remember where i hear this but in 5th gear if you take the first number and divide by 2 you get how many RPM x1000 you should be at... like 70mph should be at 3,500 rpm 90 should be at 4,500 rpms.... and so on and so on..

Sometimes I feel like I am damageing my engine
I have a auto and with my catback installed I noticed I lost some low end but gain some good mid and high end power so when I drive from 1st gear I really need the power so I just gas it and it revs up to 4500RPM
But I don't think you are damageing your engine
my parents have a 98CR-V and they beat the sh.it out of that thing even when their engine is cold and the car has like 200,000KMS and they have never had a problem with the car

I spin around 3750-3800rpm in fifth gear (EX MT). Mostly because I am running 205/50/15's (1.5" smaller in diameter than stock tires).... It is loud, but it is also nice to have alot of freeway acceleration in fifth gear....

hurting your engine depends on when u shift if you red line it every time then yes but if your worried about hurting the engine at free way speeds then 3,000-4,500 are normal (it's loud because you put i muffler and after market piping on j/k i remember when i frist got my exhast done i had a headache because it was so loud in and out of the car so i put on a highflow res. to help w/ the noise and cut the buzzing) sorry that i got off-topic

there's gonna be 4 different responses (theoretically) to this. one for EX manual, one for EX auto, one for DX/LX manual, one for DX/LX auto. two engines and two trannies gets you four combos. i have EX MT and 3500 sounds about right.

I am sure your acceleration times improved by quite a bit as well. I thought about getting lower profile 15" to compliment my light wheels but that would bring back the wheel gap.

Anyhow, your engine is completely normal. Our engines buzz away on the interstate. It's annoying as f-in hay whether you have a completely stock enging or have added the bolt-ons.

I find myself constantly reaching to shift up a gear even after driving the car for almost a year now. It keeps me from driving as fast as I normally would because it does make you feel like you are wearing on the engine. Although, they say that there is almost no wear on the engine while on the interstate..

Just drive it how ya want. It's a honda motor, you'll be fine.

OOOPPPPsssssss.....I have an EX 5sp

Why do people forget about the HX? With a newb I'd let it go, but a Super Member? So to correct AFlyer, there should be 6 different responses (theoretically):
EX MT
EX AT
DX/LX MT
DX/LX AT
HX MT
HX CVT

I forget what my RPMs are at 70mph. I'm pretty sure it's under 3000 RPM. I have an HX CVT.BTW, do the RPMs at a given speed have to do with the final drive ratio? If so, that would explain things with the HX CVT (final drive ratio = 5.81)

Thanks for the replies. Strange though.. hrmm. A whole bunch of different answers here. But it seems that for a EX 5-spd the common rpm range is 3300-3500, atleast thats what a few peeps mentioned. What baffles me is that the LX and HX 5-spd, they only turn 3100rpms at 80mph? I remember seeing the gear ratio's for the different trannies, and they didnt seem that much far off from each other. Anyone got the gear ratio's handy? Thanks again for the replies..
