What are your opinions in the 2 cars. I will be trading my car in soon for either one, and I've been debating between the two for a while now. I'm trying to weigh out the pros and cons for each, but a little help from you guys is always appreciated.
Thanx

Rep Power: 0 My brother has a 2001 GTI and it was pretty fast to start but nothing overwelming. Then he put in an intake and exhaust. Moderate mods and he got moderate gains. But then he put in a racing chip and now that thing hauls *****! It really did make it a lot faster.
The one thing I really dont like is that it has really horrible handling stock. I am sure it could get better with a drop and tires and shocks.
Never driven the Type-S but I have driven a modded GTI and I would go with the GTI.

Rep Power: 280 i was going to the a volks wagon golf, i was actually looking into the 1.8 turbo. i happened to talk to my mechanic about it and he told me if i wanted to get a golf, get the one with out the turbo. he said the turbo ones are known to have problems with the turbo overheating. and you know that if you ever have a problem with a german car its gonna cost a hella lot more to fix than a honda. good luck with your decision.

Rep Power: 0 go with type-s. Compare with gti, type-s looks much better, and you also get 6 speed and japanese car reliability. But I will get a wrx soon, maybe you should consider it

Rep Power: 0 I went trough the same thing just about a month ago.
I have my self a 03 Blue RSX-S.
The reasons why I didn't choose the 1.8T:
-Reliability and service sucks
-Reliability again, because I planed on chipping it.
-The interior was good quality and all, but it was like sitting in a box. Everything was vertical and horizontal; hardly any angles or curves. In other words - boring.
-The seats (compared to the RSX)
The reasons why I chose the RSX-S:
- i-VTEC!!!! I just broke her in enough to start using i-VTEC. It is amazing! its a wonderful feeling
-I loved my Honda civic so much, why not upgrade to Acura
-Looks better (when you think about it, the VW GTI look is getting old. Sure it still looks good, but new car.. for that much money...)
-The clutch and the shifter are much more 'sporty'
I really love the RSX-S because it is, to me, two cars in one. You can drive it nice and be in a nice luxury/sporty car, or you can really open her and she will scream like crazy. Face it, we don't always drive a certain way. Sometimes will feel like taking it easy, and sometimes we feel crazy. This car is perfect for either mood.
The only bad thing I have to say about the RSX-S is the Premium fuel and the back seats are far from practical. I had my civic for 9 months and had someone back there once, so it really wasn't a concern for me. Try sitting back there and see if you would want one of your friends back there.
I am really happy with my RSX-S and will keep her for a long time.

Rep Power: 0 Depends on what you want.
Bottom line: VW is no where near the acura in reliability, quality, or resale. They are known for reliability problems. If you don't mind having something go wrong every now and again, it may be ok for you. Oh, VW dealers are known for some of the worst service on the planet.
Acura: It's the way to go. There isn't much of a way to dispute this. It's a given. May not be as fast or what have you, but you ALWAYS be driving it and the resale will knock your socks off.
Is there really a decision here?

Rep Power: 0 RSX-S is an awesome car and all but so is the GTI 1.8T. Other than the GTI's lacking in suspension and lack of power on extremely hot days I would put my money on the GTI because of HP and TQ. Put a chip on that baby and I think you have your moneys worth.

If you want more interior luxury and more low end torque I suggest the GTi. As a previous owner of a Type S the only benefit of upgrading to the S will be an 8000 redline, leather seats, and the fact of knowing you have a reliable car. If you really want power, a nicer interior and a factory turbo go with GTi.

Rep Power: 0 celica gts destroys a type s im sure a gti 1.8t would make short work of the type s also.
in fact with boltons best type s run ive heard was 15.1, which is pathetic.

Rep Power: 0 Since you all have given me your opinons and thoughts, I'll tell you guys what I think of each, concidering that I've only driven a Type-S before, I've NEVER driven a GTI 1.8T...
I was leaning a little more to the GTI 1.8T mainly because of the german engineering involved, and the strength of the body. I mean, by getting a Type-S, I'm basically going from one honda to another. I know that it is obviously a lot more powerful than a civic, and a little more luxurious because of the leather, but when it comes down to it, the build and body structure of the car, is basically my civic, spiced up. I'm looking to get away from the whole HONDA/ACURA thing, and thats not to say that I'm against them at all, because I just may end up going with the Type-S, but It's something about those damn Germans that gets me going.
My friend took me for a spin in his VW GTI 337, I know that it has a 6spd tranny, so it perform a little better than the GTI 1.8T, but the engnie is exactly the same, and I was pretty impressed with the power. The handing was great IMO. He was making sharp turns at like 75km/h, and the car wasnt leaning that much at all, its like it stayed level through the whole turn. Between the two, I thought that the GTI performed slightly better without any upgrades, but I think I'm just gonna have to look at all the options between the two and see which one is best for me.

Rep Power: 0 I dont know how easy they are to come by, but my friend who has the GTI has the one with the recaro seats and the 18" rims...I forget what it is called? Anyways, that thing is sweet as hell and if you could get one of those that is what I would recommend.

Rep Power: 0 1.8 turbo... add a chip to gain like 50hp and 50pounds of torque. goto www.goapr.com if you get the GTi. That chip is awesome, you can set it from stock or racing, by controlling your cruise control. even valet so the car wont go more then 50mph. lol.. its only $499... people pay that much for exhaust and get 5hp
