Rep Power: 0 Car Stereo Install 2001 Civic LX Sedan
New to Civic's just bought one two weeks ago. I also bought:
-a kicker amp
-4 speakers (coaxial polks) 6.5's for front & 5 1/4's for back
-Kenwood Head unit
-a 1.2 Ferad cap
- a 10" sub (kicker) (also have a 15" jbl available but does not fit that well)
The questions I had were (obviously estimates)
1) How long would it take to install *note* (doing it with a friend who has a decent amount of experience in car installations just not familiar with Honda)
2) What mounting brackets are needed
3) Amount of speaker wire needed. (Planning on putting the amp under either passenger or driver seat, sub in trunk, speakers and sub driven by amp)
4) Any tips or suggestions?
Any relevant input would be great!
Thanks.

1. it will take you a good 5 hours with both of you. he knows the fundimental basics but i doubt he'll know the civic well. he will have to find routes and such to wire it.
you'll need to take out door panels, rear panels, run speaker wire, take the head unit apart, wire and run the power wires through....etc.
2. you might need 1" spacers in the front depending on how deep your front speakers are. your sedan uses 6.5" speakers all around. so you will have to modify your rear to fit them with proper spacers and such.
3. if you are running a double wire (has both + and -), you will need at least around 50ft of speaker wire. you will need about 10ft of power wire (no less than an 8 awg). 4awg is a good compromise between cost and power...
4. post picts. go look at the DIY for the headunit removal. keep us updated.

Thank you for the speedy response sl33py, I appreciate it. I will definitely post some pictures most likely before and after shots. Will let you know if I have any more questions as the project proceeds.

The amp install should take no longer than an hour.
Speaker install, at most 2 hours for all 4
Headunit is where it's going to kick you in the ***.
It can go anywhere from an hour up.
Take your time, do your research, get it right the first time.
You do not want to take stuff back apart because you messed up.
Buy quality wires. Cheap ebay wires will trick you by using overall diameter for gauge sizes, rather than the gauge size of the wire.
You might purchase a 2GA wire, but only having a 8GA core. with massive amounts of plastic shielding.
